jdmr288's SW20

Car is sold to another forum member - New car update last page :)

Current mods:
Apexi pod filter + heat shield
Ebay 3" de-cat dump pipe
Blitz Nur Spec+R "catback" exhaust
Alpine CDA-9886 head unit
Alpine DDLinear 6.5" in the front with tweeters in the A-pillar corners
Kenwood 4ch amp bridged running the DDLinears
Alpine Type S sub powered 300wrms via an Alpine monoblock
Engine lid shroud made by Totenkopf with 2x11" SPAL fans. God they work like a treat.

Future Mods:
I have a Haltech E8 with PnP adapter for the gen2 almost ready to be put in and tuned. Just have to get it to idle on the haltech (problem with spark plugs last time) and then hopefully will get her boosting around 14-15psi..aiming for close to 170rwkw. I really have no idea what shes pushing atm so yea I'm not expecting great things.
I want some coilovers and looking at some RE30 rims...trying to find some in titanium black[xx(] .
Eventually I'll rebuild the motor and I'd like to aim for 250-300rwkw on a nice streetable setup. Won't be using the car for hill climbs or gymkhanas for now but I don't see myself being able to sell the damn thing either so it's a possibility in the future.

Here are the pics. Don't mind the ones where the paint looks faded...just a pissy camera on the LG mobile made it come out poo poohouse.

This is the day I picked her up and just got home. Old Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust and old plates. Very happy that day :D

Haha, he has the money so he can afford having another "badge" on it..albeit a $2295 badge.

    First Post :).
First off, your engine lid with the 2 spal fans is amazing :D. Secondly why did you replace the Old Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust?

Edit: And what were your impressions of it while it was installed and in comparison to your new exhaust :)?

Yea the shroud and fans were a custom jobbie that Totenkopf (admin) had a group buy on. They are quite loud at first but you do get used to it quite quickly. They pump out so much heat and I'm quite skeptical on the way the airflow has been designed on the SW's so it was a must have for me.
I swapped the exhaust as it made no noise whatsoever and I didn't like the look of it. So now I have a unique looking Blitz system on there which IMO is far better flowing and I really noticed the difference even though both systems use the same 3" diameter. The dump pipe would have helped with that though as well.
The Nur Spec exhaust is not for the faint hearted. It's loud and WILL get you noticed by the right and wrong people (cops) but I haven't looked back since.

    Welcome to the forum BTW

Did I see your note on another post about hassle you had with the wiring on the Haltech? Reason I ask it look pretty similar to the set up I have!

The haltech is fine...it's just the plug and play adapter made by a different company that's causing the dramas. It uses jumpers inside on the board but they were in the wrong spot. James ended up sorting it out and then we found out some of the wires were in the wrong spot, thus having to dick around a tad more. I believe the adapter was made by tunerdeals.com, im not certain on that though. It was a complete balls-up afaic. It's still creating dramas but James believes it's because of a lack of a 3bar map sensor. It keeps reverting back to default settings and it isn't registering any vacuum or the wrong values. So the best part of 10hrs and the best we could manage was to get the engine to turn over with some throttle, rev it between 3-5000 where the fueling seemed to be decent, but it would die almost straight away after it had revved. The best we got was for it to bumble away sounding like it was dropping a cylinder here and there for maybe 20seconds or so but it needed constant blips of the throttle to stay alive. It also wasn't responding to the throttle input..normally you put ur foot down and it will rev...i'd put my foot down and then OFF and THEN it would rev up so NFI! lol.

Sounds like a lot of hassle, I have the plug and play adapter as well. Is there any way to find out by visual inspection if the wiring is right?

Probably the best we could do is if i took a shot of my circuit board and see if your jumper settings are the same. Bloody pics are disappearing on me as well.

Does your plugin board have an onboard map sensor, if so, this may save some of your dramas. In James' application we were using the factory map sensor. To do this you had to input the calibration details. Every time the software was reopened then we ran into issues with the map calibration data resetting itself, and had to type in all the calibration figures again. There was also a bit of other weird stuff going on with the fueling, but this can be sorted out once we have a reliable and accurate MAP device. We were ending up chasing our tail as the fueling would go weird and but then you'd look and the map sensor calibration had reset itself to default.

The plugin has the onboard map sensor, I confirmed this with the vendor when I received the product. Based on this, do you reckon I should be pretty much ok based on what you have seen with James’s set up?

Should be OK, is it a haltech map sensor on the board? If it has the same calibration you'll be fine.

Got James' car to start and continue to run today. It needs tuning though as the base map is nothing less then pathetic. We mounted the IAT sensor up and also sourced him a Haltech 3 bar map sensor and mounted it just under the factory map sensor and wired it in.

Not sure of the brand of map sensor, I will have to check that out. BTW, how does the onboard sensor work as opposed to the stock stand alone sensor unit?

OK about time I updated this thing - minus the pictures. I have gen3 rear lights with a very nicely dodgied black centre piece I sprayed using the leftovers in a Brake Caliper spray can. Does the trick! Bought the JIC coilovers off MuMan here and only put those in about a week ago. Massive difference in handling and ride quality. It's severely bumpy and really is too stiff for the street - especially with QLD's notoriously crap roads. Every time I drive I'll end up saying a few choice words to myself in the car about politics, councils and the government in general. Then I'll go onto something like "no wonder manufacturers keep making boats for the street, just to cover up how poo poo these roads are" etc etc etc. [88]

I also have a CT20B on the car now, swapped for the CT26 of course and the difference is very noticeable and the gains are felt very nicely on the bum dyno.
I took it to an actual dyno tonight and managed 169.6rwkw on the first run. Second run saw 120rwkw with the engine check light on. Popped the codes 32 and 52, and also have a evenly spaced 3 beats showing up as well but thats on in the BGB so no idea what that is. Suspected broken/faulty knock sensor. I'll check it out tomorrow and see what the go is.

    Current mod list -
    Apexi pod filter
3" dump, I'll reserve comments about the catalytic converter for legal resons.
Blitz Nur Spec-R 3" catback system (sexy)
    CT20B
    Stock boost
    JIC coilovers
    DBA slotted front rotors
Polished shroud with 2 11" spals - courtesy of Totenkopf.
    All alpine sound system
    T18 tinted windows.
    Personalized plates.

    Future mods -
EMS sidemount IC kit - if the ba$1ard sends it out to me (waiting over 4 months for this...) If he doesn't send it out then I'm going W2A
EMS boost gauge (again if he sends the thing out)
Still have my Haltech E8 sitting in my closet waiting for the IC kit to come in so I can tune it.
Enkei RPF1 - either these or wedsports SA70TT's
Overhauled brakes...pads are wearing unevenly. Looking into the Wilwood 4pot upgrade at this stage..not sure what to do with the rears.
    New tyres

Let me know what you think - share opinions and shed some light on the error codes!

What made you change your mind about the wheels - TE30's -> Enkei RPF1 ?

Tidy setup, stop working on the car for a while and come on damn run already.
