I really wish i could afford decent tyres. I have to make do with what i've got atm as attending the MTC is gonna use the last of my available funds :(
I'll still have heaps of fun, even if i'm not that fast... (the driver is probably more of a handicap than the tyres anyway lol)

Keep an eye on Gumtree, not often but sometimes you'll actually find some decent ones with the right dimensions fairly cheap. I picked my A048s up for $120.

Adjustable top mounts and suspension firmness, but it'll be a full inspection.

On top of that I'm expecting issues with having no o2 sensor (or even slot for it in my exhaust), emissions, some missing plastic on the seat belt buckles, and most likely a few other bits and pieces.

Never cleared a car off from defect so I have no idea what to expect. I suppose I'll put the stock suspension/wheels on, try to fit a O2 sensor somehow and put some ethanol in the tank and see what happens?

Anything else to keep in mind?

Maybe message Carmikey, i've never had to have an inspection, but i think he knows the ropes pretty well.
If you need to borrow parts, there may be some SA guys willing to help.....put out a call on this forum as most of the SA guys are pretty good helping other local enthusiasts. Have you met any of them yet?

Thanks for the tip. I've now confirmed the oxy sensor connector has been cut. Thanks for that previous owner who did that...

Anyway I'm now halfway through putting my old and nasty supposedly "road safe" struts back and I've ordered an oxy sensor that'll just put in there as a token effort.

Then depending on what the regency inspection results in I'll decide between fixing it up, selling it defected or making a full track car of it. Which would be an absolute shame seeing in how good shape the car actually is. But at the same time I can't go spending thousands of dollars to fix it up if I have to. :(

Drive to the NT and rego it up here..lol

They would pass a car with wooden wheels here..

I had a MK1 with a 3SGTE, No cat, Roof mount intercooler etc, And they didn't look twice at it haha.

Didn't go too bad fortunately! Massive weight lifted off my shoulder despite not having crossed the finish line just yet.
Need to sort out:
#Ignition key is removable while in run position
#Need new engine mounts
#Steering wheel missing ADR approval
#Rose jointed tie rods
#Front springs cut/loose

I've got parts on it's way for most of it except the front springs. Does anyone happen to have a spare set of front struts I could borrow for a few days? :)

After way more trouble than it should have been the defect has finally been cleared. In the end I ended up doing the following:
#Ignition key is removable while in run position = Picked up another barrel from a Camry at a wrecker.
#Need new engine mounts = Ordered polyurethane ones from Twos-R-Us, and they're lovely!
#Steering wheel missing ADR approval = Picked up cheapest possible wheel at Supercheap Auto
#Rose jointed tie rods = After searching over half the globe for a healthy set I eventually had Rickos Road and Race fabricate new ends and bushings
#Front springs cut/loose = Also surprisingly hard to find. Found a stock set from Corolla Spares in NSW. This made the car about 2cm to high in the front, nothing a spare wheel and 4 brake rotors in the frunk couldn't resolve though. :)

Now I'll just have to put all the goodies back on so I'm ready for Mallala on the 11th.

And indeed we both did go to Mallala on Saturday and I'm really glad I did! Despite having to start over to some degree with the setup, the car showed great potential already in the first session by keeping me within a second from my personal best.

I kept improving throughout the day but after just improving by 0.01 sec between session 4 and 5 I figured I've had enough, or so I thought. But Rick, and a Christian who was running an AE82 talked me into going out for another session and I'm glad they did.

I somehow managed to pull out a completely bonkers lap in comparison with the previous ones and improved by 0.9 seconds. As seen in the video the lap after was abandoned rather quickly so after that I decided I had finally had enough.

It was great meeting Rick and we ran into another new SW20 Turbo owner as well whom we told to get on the forum asap.

Here's the lap in question. Now getting very close indeed to my <1:30 target. Lighter wheels and a snorkel with a fresh intake which is probably up next should do the trick.

Timmy you can improve on your time. Speciality on corner one, I do not go into that so hot with a mr2, I dab the brake just before and turn in, then with full acceleration power through corner it stop back of the mr2 sliding and you are at a better setup position for the next long left corner. Mr2 do not like a full turn into a corner at a fluttering 50% throttle it makes the back end light and slide and it loses time. Hope this helps.

The little Adub has now been given a new set of wheels and tyres to help me shave of those last few tenths. The wheels should save me a few valuable unsprung kilos each, as well as look rather nice if might say so myself. And the tyres probably speak for them self. :)

Also put some new stickers on to fill the void from the removed defect sticker and to give those few extra kws.
