Black Snake Creek Festival - President's Report Plus Photos
A representative group of all three MR2 models and their owners attended the Black Snake Creek Festival at Marburg, Queensland, on Saturday the 11th of October 2014.
Marburg is a small town heading west from Brisbane towards Toowoomba. In its heyday around 1900 Marburg had a courthouse, police barracks, a post office, two hotels, five churches, a State school, a School of Arts, several stores, a blacksmith, a butter factory, a sugar factory and a rum distillery. At that time nearly 80 per cent of Marburg's population came from Germany or was of German descent.
[ Up until 1965 the main road to Toowoomba went through the middle of Marburg, which made it a natural stopping off place for the journey. No wonder the two hotels did so well. When the Warrego Highway was built in 1965 Marburg was by-passed and the town has subsequently become much smaller, as has happened to many such small towns in Australia.
One of the best things about the Black Snake Creek Festival Show and Shine is that it is one of the few places where a car enthusiast can see a large number of often unusual cars without having to walk kilometres around a large show venue to do so.
Prizes are awarded according to age groups and in the past an MR2 has won the "over 80's" segment, but this year it went to a pristine example of the Ford Capri convertible, a photo of which is included amongst the ones attached. The red Chrysler Imperial land yacht, also captured in the photos, had enough sheet metal in it to make four MR2's.
Our cars always get favourable comments from the public, with the usual questions about "where is the engine?" and "how do you fit your luggage in" being asked. Everyone who attended had a great time, and thanks to Mrs Scope for inviting us to send a delegation. Until next year then.
