Interior Replacement

I've been looking out for an SW20 MR2 to purchase for a while now. There's one local to me that ticks a lot of the boxes for me, but it's got a custom interior that just doesn't do it for me. If it were easy and economical to change over the interior to a decent quality standard black, I'd be keen to do so!

In this case, I'd pretty much need to replace every piece of interior except the carpet. So how difficult and/or costly is it to locate the various interior bits and pieces of an SW20? Do they change between revisions at all?

    Rev1/2 then a change to Rev3/4/5. Afaik.

The JDM models have differing level of spec seating for GT, as do the ADM ones. If you have the patience you can find everything you'd need to do a whole change. If its a t-top I don't think it'd take you too long. SRK often has nice door skins for sale at decent prices, nice seats too but the postage on the seats is killer.

Keep your eyes open for wrecked cars, can be cheaper in the long run to have a donor car.

    Thanks Dudeman, that's good info!

I didn't end up buying the car (RACQ found front end collision repairs, which were rusting), but I'm sure someone else will want to know at some point.

If you are prepared to wait and watch the market some mint SW's come up once in a blue moon. There was an awesome 1999 gold/orange one that sold in the ACT a couple of years ago for a price that nearly made me divorce, it had really low k's as well.

I recently sold my ADM GT to a member here, it was close to mint on the interior, the black paint had suffered a bit from clear coat fade on the roof but otherwise I loved it. New owner does as well.

The ACT one sold in about three days, so if it's good you have to move quick!

Yeah, I've been keeping my eye out for a while, waiting for the right opportunity. They seem to be a bit thin on the ground in SE QLD at the moment.

You'll have to broaden your horizons, flights are cheap - buying the right car is well worth it. And a great road trip home. There's enough members here countrywide who may offer to give potential cars are critical eye for you before you even considered travelling.

I flew to Melbourne, and then Sydney to look at cars. I ended up with a 97 that had only done 125,000kms. I drove it 2000kms home after buying it, and its been great :-)

Totally agree, my past 6 have all come from interstate, unfortunately living in lil old Adelaide, I pretty well know all of them here but normally end up having to fly / drive home.

Be patient...one will come up, but as Dudeman stated 'you will have to be quick', as the good ones dont last long at all.

In 2006 brought mine from Qld then truck it to Adelaide that got me JDM 12/92 Hardtop with a few gen 3 goodies on it with only 98000kms. They are out there. Still have it stored in my shed still only 100,000 kms on it. Check daily and Australia wide.

Yes I can also agree on looking Australia wide, I picked up my 94 JDM Hardtop from Cairns with 80,000km on it at the time. Flew up and drove it home and was well worth going the extra distance to get it, I think it pays to look Australia wide to find a good car when it is a bit of a limited market.

    Current ride, 2010 TT RS
Previous ride, 1994 JDM MR2 Turbo hardtop
