President's report - UP SCOPE - Sunday 27 September 2014

TECHNICAL DIRECTORS DAY - PRESIDENT'S REPORT AND PICTURES

17 cars and their owners took advantage of the fantastic Queensland weather at this time of year to attend the Technical Directors Day last Sunday at the famous Scope Cave. The activity was set up for members to arrive at whatever time they could with the majority getting there between 9.00am and 11.00am, although our Uni students always seem to get there after lunch. I was always on time when I went to Uni and never got out of bed late once.

All three MR2 models were represented at the gathering. Under strict safety conditions, starting with a full safety briefing from Scope, everyone was permitted to have a look at their car on the hoist and take notes from the observations of two of our very knowledgeable Club Technical Directors, Scope and Nat_p.

The most commonly heard statement from members on the day when their car was just on the hoist was something like:
"Well, I don't have any big problems at the moment but there is just this one annoying rattle in the engine/front suspension/rear shocks/side panel/Targa roof/etc. (use whatever word you like) that you might like take a look at for me if there is time".

So many "rattles" were fixed or given advice on how to repair them that Scope's neighbours must have thought they were different cars driving out of the Scope Cave to go home.

The ensuing response from members were very positive about the day, which is reflected in both the posts on the Forum after the event and the photos below.

I would like to say a HUGE thank you firstly to Mrs Scope for lending us her home and her husband for the day, and additionally the work she put into getting all the food supplies in and ready to go.

The same sized thank you also goes to SCOPE for giving up his Sunday to help the Club, with the same BIG thanks to Nate_p for the excellent work he undertook all day and the sage advice he gave on the cars. Finally we couldn't have done without the large contribution made by Groper and the Club Run Manager towards making the day go so smoothly.

Groper being in charge of cooking the snags actually made him very popular until he tried that new MR2 seafood delicacy from Master Chef cooked over the flame, aptly namely "Singed Arm of Groper", which left people wondering for a while what was really in the food.

Just this day alone is worth more than the $20 annual membership fee, and we were able to sign up two new members while their car was on the hoist being inspected (who said blackmail is dead?). When it was discovered that both new members had AW11's and not SW20's the President ordered that the prospective new members be released from the holding cell immediately.

Days like Sunday are what the Club is all about, it was great to see such a good turn out of cars, and the pictures included below give an idea of what the day was like.

See everyone at Black Snake Creek and the Mt Cotton Hill Climb. Look out for the posts coming soon!!!
