project mr2 - power steering - this is weird

Hi everyone,

I am searching the internet with no luck on a few things. I bought a MR2 with a lot of love needed.

The problem;
Power cable next to the battery was not connected. I had no powersteering. I connected the wire and the powersteering pump runs continuously. More alarming is when the cable is connected and powersteering pump running, the ignition (all lights on the dash as if the car was about to start).

Internet says; replace the relay. Before I do that anyone have opinions of checking anything or had a similar problem.


Background:
The car is currently in mildura trying to get it fixed for rego, then can get it to a mr2 mechanic. I bought the car unseen, emotional hasty decision, and hence my world of pain. This car has had more problems than imaginable. I have access currently to the internet, a workshop, and some local mechanics who want nothing to do with the MR2 (everything's a headache in working on them apparently - I think its just challenging fun). Bought heaps of parts from the forum contacts. Thanks everyone now and future for helping.
