one month on...
foot/leg/anke combo is still pretty sad..
but as it turns out, so is little red.
Late November i took it off to the mechanic to get sorted. since i dont need the car until february, progress is slow.. but its getting fixed.
- a compression check showed it was baaadly down on one cylinder.
- head pulled off, showed no damage. HG fine, etc..
- intake manifold strip down revealed a busted TVIS plate. two cylinders were always open, while the other two worked. explains the painful down-low power in the last few weeks of driving.
- motor continues to be pulled down.
- bam. two of my 42,000km old, genuine smallport toyota pistons are cracked in the piston ringland. urgh...
New pistons have been ordered, got a replacement TVIS, and it's all going back together. The new pistons are hypatec smallport pistons. still cast, but supposedly better and worth a shot.
This time it will be going on the dyno, to check it all out a bit better. Need to make sure its not having some sort of fuel supply issue. its all hard.. its just so damn old. :(
annoying having to rebuild it twice in two years, but ehh... i just want it running for when i can drive again. looking forward to this soso much.. :'(
oooootherthanthat... unposted picture set from august, to freshen up this page... :)
Lil red hasnt had any new **** bought for it for a few months.. because i've pre-occupied myself with a new toy. :D
I'd never imported a car before, so it was an interesting process. learned alot.
browsed the SEVS list, decided to go for an EVO 5, and then got searching. it was probably 2 months of trawling the auctions before this one came up. 50-60,000 cars go up for auction every week in Japan... of which 5-6 may be Evo 5's.
long story short, here it is. complied but unregistered:

i still cant believe these are so cheap! A proper Group-A Homologation Rally car.. and a successful one at that! the Evo 5 won the WRC in 1998 (the evo 5 was only produced for this one year - awesome), winning 7 of 13 rounds, including Australia. :P
it has an adjustable aluminium wing, aluminium bonnet and (wide!) guards, brake ducts, tacked on rear flares, big front mount air and oil coolers.. with water spray.. etc etc.. so geekily rad. :P
this one in particular seemed extra nice.
original books, tons of paperwork, and absolutely covered in quality parts. was a grade 4C car, and looks very smart. :)
