Very clean aw11. I've only just gone through the thread after all this time :D. Question on the Raybrigs up front? What's the difference like in terms of light distance/cutoff/spread over stock?

the lights are nice improvement overall, but as for specifics; they spread further left-to-right, (so you can see columns of light almost beside the car) and have much sharper cutoff than originals. strangely, they also cut off at the bottom, so right infront of the car will be completley dark, then full light a bit further forward. basically, i seem to have much less lighted distance (close-to-far) than before, but it manages to be brighter and better where im actually looking...

whats important is that they look fkn fantastic from the outside. :P news..! got a new exhaust mid-section yesterday; done at ringwood perf exhausts, who have done other cars ive had in the past. always quality. 250mm longer secondaries going into a 2.5" collector, 2 1/4" for the rest, and a new high-flow cat. so now the exhaust is complete, going from the Trust TR NA extractors, to the new mid-section, to the Fujitsubo. shouldn't have waited so long to do this, as the cat must have been somewhat blocked or the piping being far too restrictive. its a noticeable improvement - not as if doing this to a stocker would've necessarily improved anything, but its finally letting the other mods do their work properly. also took the car for a great drive today. running like a champ, even though the gearbox is almost toast. :P under 1500km from 380,000, so time to book it in to get the gearbox rebuilt and the Quaife in!

more. moremore. just photos of the same, but its good practice. i wish i was better with the camera. i need to figure out how to get the colours better on days which arent ideal. its all well and good on sunny days when the sun is rising/setting (hard pressed taking a bad photo..!) but its winter.. and its not like that now. the sky is grey and colours dull.. so everything looks washed out and sad. bring any light to the car, and next thing the sky is just white <_< but thats for later. lots to learn. i think thats enough... :S in other news; put a new (old) clock in today. id been without one for years now - it faded off in 2007 or so, after coming and going for months. fairly dissapointing process really. the car is just so damn old.. everything is tired. the whole dash skin is like egg-shells, and will crack with finger pressure. clips constantly break, things rattle.. and theres just not alot i can do about it. managed to get to the clock by removing the radio, which let me put my hand up behind the middle dash vent. removed that, then i could stick my hand in there and get to the clips at the back of the clock. anyway, it works.. and im happy.

Great car and great pics. Re sky blowing out in the pics if you lighten the car, you cant really help that unless you use a graduated ND filter for the sky, or combine 2 pics with one exposed for the sky, one for the car. Re bringing out the colours in the car, usually increasing saturation helps. Do you shoot RAW or JPG? Cheers

i've heard about those.. i really should look into some different filters, as it might solve alot of my troubles with light and colours. i actually have a UV filter clipped onto the 35-70 lens all the time, but i have no idea what it does! almost all the time i use a fixed 50mm f1.8 lens that doesnt have room for things to clip on the front? i just take the pictures in large jpeg format.. never even really tried the raw function. i have the saturation and sharpness notched up from standard anyway, as the camera's colour's out of the box are shocking. so damn washed out.. all the time. i think im going to go hunt down some different filters. bit of reading to do now..! :)

UV filter is mainly to protect the front lens element, maybe cut down some haze over long distances etc. You should be able to screw a filter onto the front of your 50mm, should have a female thread on the end. If you decide to play with raw, set your camera to do raw and jpg, so you can quickly do things if required, raw is usually much slower, but gives you options to change white balance, a fair bit of exposure etc. you should use photoshop or similar for maximum benefit of raw. You can rescue what would otherwise be a lost jpg if the camera stuffed it up.

update time.. got the car back from having the box rebuilt just last thursday. missed the **** out of it. :$ almost everything in the trans-axle was fried.. and a mount on the casing had ripped off. :P so all replaced, and the Quaife in! first impression was disappointing. shifting is hard, and everything is really stiff. it was also hard to get it into gear.. pretty much every gear. BUT, this has freed up now, and its getting better and better. also the LSD is a huge plus, as it doesn't do hectik singles up my driveway anymore (woo...!), and for whatever reason it really feels a whole lot more planted in the rear end. on a side note, the engine is going harder than it ever has; really screams along for a NA 1.6. what was left of the old exhaust (and moreso the cat) must have really been holding it back.. :S in OTHER news, my cooler arrived: which came along with a pair of cam covers i dragged out of Japan. it may have been pretty silly to get something like that from Japan, but they looked great in the ad on yahoo japan. totally worth it though.. the quality was fantastic. i usually expect to be slightly disappointed with everything... 80% or so.. but occasionally I'm pleasantly surprised! they'd done a TOP job. perfectly clean, perfect paint and machining on the letters, and new seals to boot! put them in straight away..! Running it without the valley cover because it just looks so much better... but hopefully theres no downside here! nice and clean.. ! :D car also got new front indicator lenses.. and random photos.. and random photos from around the city... all good. :)
