Very nice find. Well, in that case, yeah, you wouldn't want your compression higher than it is, for sure. The HKS were designed to be used without an IC, but it would probably be a good idea to maybe think about using water injection, or some such other similar method to cool down the charge a bit.

Those lights look good, something I'll consider in the future for sure. Did the HKS setup come with the hand controller for the F-Con?

nope, no hand controller.. (?) Isn't necessary right? if its been setup for a 4age, it should be set-and-forget right? the lights are def worth the purchase. much better than the standard units that's for sure.. :) pics of what i did last weekend anyway; basically, the couple month old Rays Duralumin wheel nuts had allready oxidized and looked poo pooty. bit dissapointing, as they're fairly dear, but i sort of suspect a wheel-cleaner i use. pic... ..either way, i wanted some nicer newer ones. :P bam. Project Kics Neo Chro R40 Revo's! without a doubt the stupidest and most expensive wheel nuts an idiot can buy!!!1! they have rotating seats ffs.. and end caps for... uhh... yyeah! at the same time, ive been meaning to clean the back half of the wheels. these have done maybe 10,000km or so now, and a couple months of rain/hail/shine dailying. as far as keeping wheels overall clean goes, its best to keep onto it. this is what they allready looked like: enter my favourite somewhat gentle citrus cleaner, followed by prepsol for the annoying tar spots.. and bam: good as new! at the same-same time.. id never got around to putting all the decals on. so on they went, and nuts sitting pretty for good measure... and done! its all a bit of the same really! and random; done.

Nics job as always! Looks great.
Wouldn't worry about whatever hand controller, for the Fcon that was asked about, as I have never heard of one for the early models, and besides, the Fcon's and GCC's really are set and forget. The only sort of handy controllable feature I have seen for these before are optional long length cables that allow you to mount the GCC inside the cabin for easier tuning, but they're still not something you would fiddle with constantly while you're driving, lol, and afterall you can only change the afr, not timing.
The only thing to look out for is the eprom that has come in it. From my research it appears that there may have been as many as 3 different types that were made for these, such as stage 1, 2, and 3. Different sorts of upgrades would have been expected for each version. However, with the basic controls these have I would still think that one would be able to compensate for whatever eprom that comes with them by use of the individual Fcon adjustor, and the multiple GCC ones, and if necessary possibly different fuel injectors. So I don't see it as being much of an issue.

The GCC is the correct name for the hand controller thing i was referring to - in my haste to post i couldn't remember the name. Did it come with this? It allows more flexibility with the air/fuel ratio. When I got my car from Japan the F-con + GCC were already in it, but the tune was terrible as it was running VERY rich and only getting 83rwkw. Not sure if this was due to poor tune in Japan, or the switch to our 95RON fuel (Tassie - what can i say). A quick re-adjustment saw 100rwkw and much smoother power delivery.

Looking forward to seeing the supercharger stuff, Let me know if it needs a rebuild etc as i have some sources for that.
In regards to getting it clean first step should be a sandblast in and out so all that fine detail is saved.

thanks for the heads up with it. i can imagine there'll be a bit of stuffing around to get it working properly, but i can only hope that it was run on a similar car in Japan! quote: Originally posted by mr2podThe GCC is the correct name for the hand controller thing i was referring to - in my haste to post i couldn't remember the name. i guess it didnt then. the bits that are included are in the pics.. and i dont see anything extra. :( hopefully it hasnt been washed out to sea by now! it was still waiting in japan to go sea-freight as far as i knew... quote: Originally posted by SenolThis is one of my favourite AW11's so far!

the cleaner i used on the back of the wheels was 'Oomph' (but theres plenty of similar mild cleaner/degreaser's on the market). You can buy it for nothing at Bunnings. i high-pressure wash the wheels first, then spray the cleaner on. wait a minute or so, then just get onto it with a cloth before washing it off again. doesn't put up much of a fight. Remember though, that grime was only a few months old tops; the cleaner doesn't work too fantastic on really built up vintage grime. i have older wheels which it made some attempt at cleaning, but they'd just gone too far. Best thing to do is just keep onto it. nice wheels are $$$, and it doesn't make sense to neglect them...! quote: Originally posted by kookabanusAwesome car dude, just wondering where and how much you got those universal drop links? You can order them through repco/bursons/autobarn/whatever. they're made by Transteering, and you can see the part number in the pic. :) should be somewhere less than $30 each, but i really cant remember. as far as quality goes, they're skinny which is my only concern (bending), but i havnt had any trouble yet. done only a few thousand km, but ill update this thread if anything sour happens! quote: Originally posted by nightingaleSecond for this, I find it so hard to keep wheels clean, those looked spotless!
The front half of the wheels gets washed every time i wash the car. i use a wheel cleaner from a detailing company here in Melbourne (final inspection). the poo poo is potent as, and ive used it for a long time now. but i worry about it sometimes!! quote: Originally posted by kameleonLooking forward to seeing the supercharger stuff, Let me know if it needs a rebuild etc as i have some sources for that.

thanks for that.. i might be chasing you up about the supercharger. will have to wait and see how good/bad it is, but im not expecting anything fantastic..! and sandblast, or some sort of acid bath/strip? quote: Originally posted by Domma_aw11i never thought an aw11 can get soo so much beter, but hes shown that it has, i cant say in enough but Awsome car!!! the attention to detail!!! should do; unless the car breaks down or something! i dont have anything important to do. :) quote: Originally posted by dasic1Im not a fan of the aw11 either but after seeing it at Haunted Hills I was pretty impressed. Good work keep it up.

If you really want the cast aluminum HKS sc parts to come out looking nice find a company that can glass bead blast them, and do it properly. That means using the proper size bead, and not reusing them for job after job, which some cheaper companies definitely will do, which then results in a finish no better than sandblasting. Proper bead blasting will actually polish the surface of the aluminum, and can produce a rather pleasing satin finish or better depending upon how it is done.
I've had various adub engine and transaxle components glass bead blasted. They can come out looking like newly casted, polishd parts when done properly, though the finish will also depend a bit upon the type of aluminum cast, etc. One of the nice benefits is that the process will somehwhat close the porous surface of the object being blasted, and help prevent it from oxidizing in the future.
It's a much faster process than sandblasting and then polishing, and usually cheaper. You can always clearcoat afterwards if you want, but I have avoided doing that so far as eventually the clear coat will wear away, and leave a peeling look. I bought a small pressurized steam cleaner that I use on my wheels and engine area, and use it about every couple of months or so. So far it's kept everything looking great, and no sign of oxidation setting back in. The blasting place I found was even willing to do my transaxle, all in one piece (which is really rare), and it came out looking like new.
I know you like to keep that shiny abub really spiffed up, so if you ever have the chance to remove various aluminum parts from the car, you might think about having them done while they are off.
