Looking for legal 16" staggered rims.
Hey guys, finally its gotten to the point where I need some new tires and I have decided to do the rims while I'm at it. At the moment I am running 17x7's all around, and it just looks goofy at the back to have over an inch tucked in, and doesn't make sense. To be honest the 17's (with cheap tires mind you) make the ride a little harsh, and I have heard that 16's shouldn't decrease the handling at all, but will make a difference with comfort. I was thinking of going 16x7 and 16x8 staggered, as they are the maximum legal size in VIC, but it is a little hard to find rims in this configuration... I like the look of the Rota's and Enkei's, but Rota really has nothing to help me out, and I can't find where to buy enkei's separately (for the staggeredness). Are there any other brands/ sellers you could recommend? Oh, one last thing, in any other market in the world, did the MR2 come with larger (width) rims? If so i may be able to go wider on that technicality...

Oh, I am looking to spend around $1,200 for rims. Nothing to exxy, nothing to crap. And would it be strange/ a bad idea to have staggered sizing as well? ie. 16x7 17x8?

Hi MR2_260z, Tyres with the correct load rating for the rear wheels are now getting extremely difficult to find for 16" wheels, and I would suggest that you consider remaining with 17". You refer to the rear wheels being tucked in too far, and this sounds like you have a very high offset for the rear wheels. I am not sure where you bought your current 17" wheels or what brand they are, but you may consider seeing if you can get new rear wheels to match the front with a lower offset to bring the wheels out more. If you are getting a hard ride from your tyres it may have to do with your nearly 20 y.o. suspension. Having just replaced my rear suspension today, I can tell you that it has made a HUGE difference in ride quality. I am also running 17" wheels. I have WORK CR Kai wheels, these cost me $1700 new, and took six weeks to arrive from Japan. Best of luck in your search for wheels. Cheers, M P.S. I think staggered rims diameter sizes are illegal.

Your car looks good Eric. What tyre sizes do you use? The R32 GTR / GTST 16" staggered set is a popular choice with many owners. 16"tyres to use: The pic shows them with 205/50R16 and 225/45R16 tyres, a common choice for good steering and ride. But many people also use an easier to find 225/50R16 on the rear and cop the increased diameter - might look better too. With those sizes you can easily find matching tyres of the same brand/type F-R

Yeah I really like those rims! So what's the best way to go about getting 2 of different sized rims that look the same? Where would it be easiest to buy?

Tis a very tempting price for good rims, shame it's more for black or gunmetal... I guess I could take a paint gun to them... brand new rims :/

This is true! I have looked into the stuff... Shame it's so expensive here. OS they can buy it for peanuts! And then they piss us off further by not allowing it to be imported!!!
