New MR2 in Darwin

Hey everyone, I posted another thread as an introduction, but I guess I can introduce the car here too. I'll try and contribute however much my limited experience can provide.

My new (kind-of) MR2 SW20, 1997 Bathurst from Victoria. Bought it in Nov 13. It had about 180ks on it, and going strong. Drove from Albury/Wodonga to Darwin through Stuart Highway :D No problems so far, apart from a flat battery after 2 weeks of sitting in the garage but a jump start fixed that.

Loving the car so far. Have never driven anything like it before, my only previous experience with cars is on my mums Hyundai i30 and my dads Kia truck.

Anyways here's some pics:

Ah!.. those swirls...

On the drive to SA, little convoy of silvia, wrx and a... lol, I forgot.

Sunrise a few Ks out of Cooper

Somewhere on the highway. You get to win the car if you guess how many bugs there are on the front-half of the car....

Nah jks lol, I can't afford another one...

How do you get in lingo with car parts... I don't have a mechanical background, but hopefully living amongst greasers will help me pick up some.

Major mods I would like to do: 3GSTE swap, suspensions, wheels will be done soon, and repaint. However, I would also like to learn how to drive in different situations, and how to control the car.

Anyways, cheers everyone :D Hello to Darwinians in here! (I already know about you Midnite, from my previous post, sent ya a PM man).

Lol. I saw an AW11 in a motorkana and it didn't look comfortable in there. The drive wasn't actually too bad, although maybe my ass has gotten used to long drives or it couldn't be the bucket seats, I'm not sure. Was a good drive, love going down gears and accelerating past the grey nomads (no offence lol, met a few on my way up, they were awesome, heaps at Mataranka pool) and the road trains.

Did you go up the stuart from adelaide or brissy-mount isa-threeways?

    Hi D,

    Welcome to the forum!

I noticed that you mentioned wanting to do an engine swap. If your car is an Australian Delivered Model (ADM) and has no mods, you may like to consider keeping the original engine and getting it serviced at Toyota Darwin (that is where I originally bought my baby from when I was in the RAAF) - less to go wrong and cheap to service.

Don't worry about the lingo......just ask for the blonde female explanation..........well, it works for me, but I'm a girl and I can get away with it :-)

I have done the Katherine to Brissy drive in my baby when I was posted out of Tindal.

    Cheers, M

    Hey Monika,

I'm pretty sure (not 100% though) that it's ADM. Did you buy it first hand or second hand? I thought it was only ever bought second hand from a private owner. I would like to know what's happening in the car though, so I prefer to do the tinkering or at least watch if I don't have the special tools. I've done some mistakes though, lol, which could've ended up bad.. very bad... but hey... I learn, hopefully...

Haha, well... I can't get away with that reason,BUT I am asian and I can do some asian accents, so if I'm stuck I can play the asian card. Lol, depending on who is my chain of command, I play the card everyday to get away not doing work. Doesn't work all the time though... might hit up the equity advisor...

    D,

I bought my baby both new and second hand..........read the following post to see history:

    http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=91537

From what I have seen and read on this forum, the MR2's are not the easiest car to tinker on......hence the reason I leave the work to the Toyota Hospital.

I am sure you will have fun though.

    Cheers, M

Hey everyone. Long time no post, been busy with work. Anyways, here's my "new" Work Meister S1 2P, 17x8 +32 front and 17x9 +38 front. Bought from dylmrt second hand. Kumhos Ecstas 215x40 front and 245x40 back. So far so good. Looks pretty flushed as well, they don't stick out.

Going to buy some new springs and koni yellows for it and change the bushings while I'm at it as well. Bearings seem fine though, so won't be changing those.
