QUEENSLAND AGM SUNDAY 27 JULY 2014
In past years prior to incorporation as a Club the group held an annual meeting in conjunction with the Christmas Run in early December.
Although the Management Committee has pledged to keep the dreaded "politics" to a minimum, now that the Club is incorporated there are a number of one-time issues critical to the future of the Club that need to be discussed separately from the pressure of a monthly Run, plus normal annual administration such as the election of office holders, presentation of the financial statement, awarding of trophies, etc.
For the Club this year the discussion also includes the continuing organisation of 2015 Nationals which we have agreed to host.
Therefore, as President, I am now calling an Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Club on Sunday the 27th of July 2014. To save time and effort the meeting will be scheduled for two hours only - nominally 2.00PM to 4.00PM - and held at my house in Forest Lake. Afternoon tea will be provided and family members are welcome to attend as the yard is large enough to loose children in.
While this is break with tradition it means that this year the Christmas Run will be free to just be enjoyed.
I will shortly be sending an individual PM to everyone who has attended events both this year and last year detailing the agenda for the AGM and the location details. For catering reasons if you could indicate your attendance via return PM it would be greatly appreciated.
Even if you discover your membership has lapsed or you may not have been along to a Run for a while then please don't let this put you off attending. This meeting is critical for the Club to have a solid future in the next five to ten years years so I hope to see you all there.

'Chapter' hey? Do you have to be a pledge before you become a full member? I have heard that the clubhouse can get pretty wild up there - is this the new patch?

Dudeman, we wanted to call it a "Branch" to try to fit in with the concept of having a national organisation but unfortunately being incorporated under Queensland Fair Trading legislation it has to be called a "Chapter". This is only because it is not formally part of something that has a "national" MR2 ownership-based structure, largely because such an Australia-wide "Club" doesn't exist. I understand South Australia has a similar situation, so in effect there are probably now an equal number of "Branches" and "Chapters" in existence. We don't use the word "Chapter" much at all, just in case someone in the Queensland Government thinks we are really secretly a bikie gang and our cars are really motorcycles in disguise.  The idea of having a Chapter patch does appeal though, and while we let you southerners win two of the NRL State of Origin games this year so you wouldn't get too sooky after eight straight losses, a design showing a cane toad driving an MR2 and squashing a cockroach under a tyre has been suggested. Yeah, the newman government has taken full advantage of some other fools decision to get rid of the upper house. Everyone always thought the upper house to be a useless waste of taxpayer money - now it's value is realised. Chapter - come ride with Sergeant at Alms Tralfaz, on an OMCG (Old Mr2 Club Group) cruise and party at the clubhouse. Hey hey, hey! Don't go putting me as a blues supporter, i'm from Brisbane! I was at the first State of Origin match at Lang Park and saw big Artie Beetson in action! No way, ever, will I go for the blues. Of course Qld let the series go, just to let the kiddies down here know that Qld hasn't 'always' been the best at league. I remember the lean times of the 90's when nsw were flogging us for a few years, but for nowhere near as long as this run!

To quote that famous line said by Corporal Jones from Dad's Army: "dooon't panic, sir, doooon't panic". His other famous line was "they don't like it up'em sir, they don't like it up'em", but let's not go there. The location of course will be in the greater Brisbane area so that's not a problem, (no-one needs to plan to drive to Cairns or somewhere similar) and the date will be decided in the next three weeks. Given the numbers who attended both Bright and Tassie with two years notice, knowing when and what 12 months out should be more than sufficient as people don't have to cross the water or worry about freezing to death. We are counting on an invasion so hopefully when the details are confirmed all those who attended the recent 30th Anniversaries will be there.
