Millsy's Hardtop SC adub - Work in progress
Hey all, about this time last year I purchased Bustin's white SC MR2 off him, and embarked on what's turned out to be a pretty fun journey. Thought I'd make a thread to chronicle this and also motivate me to get back to fixing everything up.
Car details are pretty much as it was in that thread.
White JDM SC AW11, hardtop. Overall exterior isn't too bad, would love to paint it but funds just aren't gonna allow it for the time being. Has the black interior which I love, and overall is it pretty good nick.
When I purchased it off Bustin it needed some attention, typical old car stuff mostly. Got the air con converted over to the new gas, and got some gearbox issues sorted. Whilst doing the gearbox they said the clutch was about done, and I've had a lightned flywheel and evo clutch installed, which I love the feel of. Unfortunately I can't report on the difference as I only had the car for a few days before I got the gearbox stuff sorted.
Bit of a fun story there, was driving home and got to a major roundabout, stopped for traffic and went to start moving again. Couldn't put the rotten thing into gear though, felt like the gearbox had seized. Realised if I switched the engine off I could put it into gear, and after a few white knuckle minutes watching traffic bank up behind me I finally got it off the road and called the shop to find out wtf was wrong. Turned out when they installed the clutch it wasn't quite adjusted correctly, and the wear on it was causing the clutch to be pressed too hard, and the teeth were jamming the gearbox or something. Not entirely sure, gearboxes aren't my strong point :)
Anyway had an interesting year with it, have given it new shoes, redone the rack ends and tie rods, fixed up that pesky bush in the rack. Had a lot of fun driving it around.
Recently things... haven't been ideal. I had someone attempt to steal it (somehow they managed to fail even though it was about a minute away from being startable by your pinky, very lucky), so I've had to do a full lock replacement and I'm scoping out car alarms currently, as well as sourcing interior panels to replace my broken ones.
The sway bar links in the front also need doing, and something went clunk the other day which didn't feel all too good. Also the intercooler has somehow lost a bolt along the way and rattles, so it's chilling safely at home and my datsun is doing me some daily driving duties for the moment.
So, future plans for me are!
Finish fixing interior
Sway bar links
Fix other niggling suspension issues
Get intercooler bolt
Replace warped brake discs
Replace sway bars with something better
Drive the crap out of it at local car club stuff :)
If I find myself randomly rich or get a deal too good to pass up on:
Paint
Twincharge / SC14
6speed conversion
I'll probably be a bit light on pictures of the whole car seeing as someone already made a pass at it, but I'll put up pictures of interesting stuff along the way, and videos hopefully :)
