Time for an update after not providing one for a little while.
After finishing a project I returned with the SW20 to Sydney to repair the work performed by paid trade services to prepare my car. As usual there really are a tiny amount of people who actually have any idea of what is expected. So I have spent close to 60 hours fixing and preparing the car for just the start up which I have managed to do on Thursday evening at 11:30pm. I guess its one way to spend your break between jobs but a decent holiday would have been better..
So my engine was removed after Havoc engineering (who tipped coolant into the ports then not telling me then damaging the engine which is now moving towards legal action)trade services did their little bit then installed the second engine bound for Canada.
The engine would not run nicely so checked all the wiring outputs to find the wiring was cut then joined instead of running complete wiring through to the connectors which then rendered the new Haltech harness USELESS!!
So after 20 hours of pain to remove, pin check every wire to where they go, discover the defects (which was enlightening and some degree of BDSM car building..), then understanding the ability of the Haltech Elite, I was on the right track. There are still some issues with bad wires which are effecting the sensors for oil pressure and oil temp but other than that, it was ready for timing then a start.
The start was ok once all this was sorted but now I need to tidy up some of the wiring so its a little more organized in the loom. I kind of enjoy it and I'm now ready to build my own loom. I guess that's one good point.
So the next headache is the throttle bodies built by custom plenum creations as they do not seal which results in overrevving at idle and some other issues with the linkages. They will be sorted next week.
So its starts and runs, sounds amazing, tight, no movement at all, no leaks. Its now a wild animal. The sound of the engine seems too much for the little MR2! I quietly smiled as its pretty much what I have been working for since removing the 3SGTE. It will need another exhaust as it will be too loud for the noise restrictions.

That sound is so good.
It's great to finally see some more progress!

There is an extensive build thread for my car here: http://www.mr2australia.com/mr2play/tm.aspx?m=18316

Thanks Rob. It sounds a lot more angry in the flesh, than the video!
Its good to back in Sydney for a few weeks so I could fix all the issues and get it to a decent level of build. I was planing on working on it today but didn't get around to it. Will be back at Callums workshop tomorrow night for a few hours. Its very close to being ready for tuning.

You will see it in S.A. before then. Im also close to having the FZERO sorted too. Will have to sort out a build thread for it.

Thanks Eddie. There is always something to learn on a build like this.

Steve, what's the 'FZERO'? Is that your red hardtop?

I can imagine, knowing that videos generally don't do justice to sound makes me want to hear the throaty, raspy growl in person.

Cabin is very close to completion. Great little battery bracket. Chances are, the accusump will be relocated onto the floor on the passenger side. Will help a lot with managing the unit.

An update,
The car is booked in to be tuned in a few weeks time. Unfortunately the workload has doubled after an inspection of the wiring. Turns out is another dodgy piece of work which basically needs to thrown out then start again..I took it to Haltech who started it was very poor work.
I am convinced there are no decent automotive trades in this country.
Still, I will fix it and have it sorted for tuning in a few weeks time.

Yeah thats a shame.
I should have looked hard at his work to see what hed been up to, i suppose by the time i saw the car hed done it all and hidden it all in tubing!

As i said, thats why i do most things myself. Sure ive made mistakes and wasted money in doing stuff wrong, but ive learnt so much.

+1 for doing the work yourself. I continually outperform the pros with race car building and I'm just an IT guy! It's bizzarre.
