It was excellent to get back back on the track on Saturday.
Massive thanks to all the guys who came out to hang out at EC and help out for the day.It simply would not have happened without you. Thankyou very much and all welcome to help out with the Winton 300 later in the year. Will definitely have to organise the passenger seat to take you all out for a few laps in the near future.
Greg did some pit wall timing with a 1.49 coming up a few times. Pretty happy with that based on the track time I have had, the driving style/skill level and the state of the car. The tyres are the same tyres from Superlap from May last year with a few more tracks day on them since Saturday. Still havent harnessed the power of the brakes. More track time will help with Winton next! Looking forward to that track day.

I figured out a few issues from yesterday.
Im positive I had too much caster on the car. I asked the question, what would be quicker around the track? A chopper or a sports bike? Well I had the caster setting of a chopper which is OK for the long quicker corners but tends to 'push a lot in all the other corners'.
The new rose jointed links/CroMo RacerX links worked a treat. If you have a circuit car, buy em!
The standard steering rack will have to go. Its too much work. Maybe a Lotus stering rack may work. Anyone looked into this?
The 'coughing' when the car hit 5500rpm, stopping it from getting past that point on almost every occasion could be a few thing with the coils being the first on the list to be secured in to place correctly.
I had a look at the RacerX option which will work but may come up with something else similar. Will also check the TPS and calibrate.
Can someone help with the right plug/temp of plug/gap setting as this could be an issue?
Will also sort out the fuel system in the engine bay incase there is an issue there with temps. This looks like the problem Suruk is experiencing which sounds a lot like what my car was experiencing.
Mirrors are still a pain as it rear vision so also needs to be addressed.

Nice call! haha !

It was a great day working at the workshop with the guy's. Also spent 9hrs today plotting the front end of the car to find out how bad the suspension was set up and believe me, it was not good.
The back was infact the rear of the car is better than the front but can be fixed a lot easier than the rear bump steer. For people who think you can just stick bits in without testing and think it will go better ( Im in the group too) you cannot be further than the truth. They neeed to be tested correctly before wasting time driving the car thinking you have done a great thing.
The long front tie rod links to improve bump steer which I had made for the car are toooooo long. Way too long. They will need to be modified to allow the right settings for as close to possible as zero bump steer.
Bump steer is the movement of wheel alignment throughout suspension travel. In a MR2, having correct caster front and rear can reduce the progresssive amount of bump steer (as well as how aggressive it comes on) through the bound and rebound range but to eliminate it correctly you need to sort out the exact location of the rear toe links and front tie rod links are located to have a nice handling car.
EVO65's car is a perfect example of a car which has been set up with zero bump steer and precise caster and camber settings and a few other items. This is why he can manage such incredible times in his MR2.
Mine is so far out on the front its almost embarassing but at least I have found the issue and will be addressed. EVO65, I will be a lot closer very soon buddy!

Anyhow, I did fit the black Enkei rims I picked up a little while ago, the new scoop and ducting. After taking the car down to the car park having fun scrubbing the stickers off the new tyres(hehe) I parked it take some pic's. I hopped out the car to actually have a close look at the car asking myself "did I actually make that?".
Itreally did look amazing, starting to look like a decent GT spec car.

Here are the pic's, let me know what you think

Looks awesome! Really like the simple design. And the black wheels look much tougher.

Time a update since the Supertruck round last month.
It was great to drive the car again and to drive it 4 days in a row was a blast. There were plenty of ups and downs over the weekend but made new friends, almost managed having the car wiped out in the first race, big loose in qualifying, was quicker than a V8 supercar at the start of one race, only 1.5-2 seconds slower than a number of cars on slicks, quicker than a evo and skyline r33 gtst on slicks, finishing 2nd overall for the weekend. Worth all the effort.
Once I made it home the gearbox has to come out due the selector issue still there. It got worse when I decided to remove the head to fit new cams only to find out the bottom end was damaged and needed a rebuild. Such is life.
So the whole drivetrain is being rebuilt.
Also fitting KW's

The car is a few days away from being run in on the dyno. This has taken a lot of time to get to this stage.

So here is a list of mods:
Note: the turbo  and IC upgrade will come along a little later.
Engine:
CP pistons
Eagle rods
ARP bolts for head and crank
Race bearings
Cometic head gasket
New oil pump
Power division 268/10.5 cams
BC springs/Ti retainers
3 Angle valve job
HKS cam gears
Shimless bucket conversion
Port match inlet outlet
Dynamic balance including all rotating components
Removal of all plumbing for coolants with only engine and turbo to be serviced
Removal of oil heater
Drivetrain:
New Clutchmasters FX700 clutch
Rebuilt gearbox(had to be done again due to a $2 component causing lots of issues) with V6 gears fitted(3,4,5)to the orginal MR2 gearset(1,2)
New gear selector bushings
ATS CroMo axle cages
Fuel:
Aeromotive fuel pump
Foam baffled tank
Re route of fuel lines away from the engine
Cooling:
Davis Craig electric water pump located at the front of the car
Insulation of the waterlines causing heat exchange with the fuel tank.
Fire wall lined with gold leaf
Interior:
Dash 2 display and data logger to replace all the useless gauges I have been battling for too long.
So plenty of changes over the last few months. Also plenty of hrs of research, design, fabrication, elbow grease, screaming and cursing but looking like it will be running again by the end of the week.
Big thankyou to Real street performance for the valvetrain components, Gorilla Industries for Clutch, injectors and more, Adaptronic for the ECU and Dash 2 package,
ATS for the axle cages, Dedicated Matt for linkages, Delta V for the shifter linkages, Dominator engineering for the engine machining, Alister, Greg, Rob, Mark, Charlie, Dylan, Jay, James for all their words of wisdom and assistance in making this a reality.
Unfortunately it will not be ready for the 300km enduro in three weeks time as it needs more time to be prepped for this kind of event. The up side being, it will be ready for the sprint rounds that weekend.

More pics!

Want to see the gold firewall, funny you do this i was thinking about doing the heat shield (seen a few done) but thought about doing the whole wall! Pics :)

What foam did you use in the fuel tank? i assume the factory tank still, as you insulated the coolant pipes. Ok for e85, altho i think you said your not going to run e85 anyways.

Interesting location for the alternator, havent seen that one before, Is heat an issue ?
I noticed on the GT4's with the alternator near the outlet manifold they have a shield with duct work to channel cold air to it.

Curious about the V6 gears and reasoning also on the shimless buckets

Yes more pic's soon. Just about all the firewall and heat sheilds has been done. Time consumming and hope it was worth the effort. In fact, I hope the whole thing was worth all the effort!
Revolution race gear sell the fuel foam. After looking at the original fuel tank I decided to keep it in place and add the foam to the three baffled compartments. The best option would be relocating the filler to the front of the tank  so you have more clean air into the engine bay but maybe another day.
Your right about not running E85 but it all helps (insulation) with heat sink on longer stints of driving. Its just the fact of 90-110 degrees of coolant in a steel pipe right next to the fuel which doesnt like heat, can do with a little tune.
Cheers

I bought the bracket from Hux racing but I have a feeling it was to be fitted somewhere else but it seem to fit there with some mods. Being low and closer to the centre of the car made good sense at the time, but there have been heat issues with a few failures caused by the alternator location so close to the dump pipe. Ceramic coating of the dump pipe, shifting a little further away from the dump pipe and insulation to the wiring has stablised the heat issues. I agree with the heat sheild and will be looking at this in the next few days.

The V6 gearset closes up the ratio's. Will have some video comparison between the two in the coming months.
Shimless buckets: I couldnt use the Gen 3 buckets with the BC valve/retainers as they suit the Gen 2 buckets. There was a choice of selling the BC kit then buying something else or work with what I had. Through the forums I became educated in the three different generation of buckets used in the Toyota engine with the shimless being the lightest, safest, reliable option. I had a hell of a time setting it all up but worth the effort.

Cheers

I like your water pump fitment. Are you still running a factory thermostat?

The water pump has a water control system where a dedicated sensor sends temps to a control unit which manages flow rates to control temps so no thermostat required. This is adjustable to suit what temp you wish to use. The pump can be set up where your programmable ECU manages the temps/water pump instead of the provided control unit.
It also allowed coolant to be sent from the back of the thermostat housing to the turbo then out to the radiator return line without having to use the recycle system. I didnt see the point in super heating coolant in the turbo, then sending it straight back into the head then wonder why intake temps are difficult to manage. It may not be the sole cause but it would be part of the problem.

Cheers
