MMM, might just go and have a good time and see what happens. Well that was the plan anyhow. Are you back in your car soon?

Mandalay, have a look at page 16 of this thread - should answer some of your questions!

Thanks cogs. Calipers are Alcon 'C'spec calipers as used by ALMS and BTCC endurance racing. Rotors are Alcon with rotor hats and brackets of my own design. An engineer that EVO65 introduced to me provided all the fabrication. Drawings are available. I dont run OEM or proportioning valve as it wasnt up to the task. I could have gone with wilwood óverhead hung' pedals but the **** factor of floor mounted pedals was too much too resist! But after using the floor mount they absolutely leave anything else for dead. No comparison at all. It has cable adjustable bias which is pretty handy once sorted. If it rains you can set for the conditions. The guys at Competition components helped out with finding the correct size calipers to suit my application and budget. If I had more cash I would have pick up these puppies http://www.competitioncomponents.com/partimages/DSC09883.JPG , but the cost was excessive. They also provided a formula and chart to sort out master cylinder sizing to match the calipers. www.carpartsinc.com supplied the remote mater cylinders for a song as well as other components in the build including braided line. Powerplay imports supply the ELF brake fluid at the best price in Sydney. Earls provided the fittings to adapt the imperial caliper/lines to the metric steel lines found on the MR2. I still have not exploited the system at all, but hope to this year instead of pulling it aprt every 5 mins.. Cheers Steve

I beg to differ on the elf brake fluid. My work has tested with elf, GS610, Ap dot 5.1, motul RBF600, and castrol SRF.
We have found that the castrol SRF is the most resistant to fade, and gave the most consistant pedal.
But be warned, as the castrol SRF is very very expensive. GS610 is a lot cheaper alternative, but doesn't hold out as well (3 hot laps of winton, and we get fade.)
And MANALDAY, if you were at all considering the brake setup and running a pedal box, floor mount is illegal in road cars, and dangerous if your in an accident and wearing a lap sash seat belt (they are designed for use with race buckets and harnesses for a reason.)

Thanks for the feedback on the brake fluid MCT as it always helps hearing from people testing the products available. The ELF fluid is the higher end product which is used within the rally circuit with positive results so Im happy to spend more time with this product.I wont really know how well it stands up until I get some serious time at the wheel of the car. How much is the SRF? As you well know the fluid is only part of the puzzle with calipers, ducting, rotors verses track conditions, geometry setting, tyres and the nut behind the wheel making up the most part of the rest of the puzzle. Purhaps we can meet up for a track day at Winton some time. Would like to have a run there as its a great little track.

SRF is around $100 a litre trade price.
One big thing with ducting, particularily in you have the deflector mounted next to the hub is to check you are getting even cooling across the rotor. Next time after you come in after a track session, if you have an IR temp gun, measure the inner and outer faces of the disc, to check if they roughly in the same temp region. Poorly setup ducts will direct too much air onto the face of the inner side of the disc, instead of into the hat so it can cool through the vents. one side of the disc been too cold will cause severely uneven pad wear, and reduced stopping efficency.
We run a variety of different setups, from stock brembo f50 calipers with project mu rotors, right up to AP, Alcon, and Brembo forged setups. A cheap way of stopping heat transfer from the pads to the fluid if you calipers don't have vented or titanium pistons is to track down a set of titanium shims. They can be had for a little over $100 dollars, and can be had for most common pad shapes.
If your at superlap this year, i might see you up there, we are entering three evo's this year, which should be good.

SRF is indeed the best - but please explain to readers why it cannot be dropped straight into any braking system...

Because of the S in SRF
Silicone Racing Fluid
It adversely affects the rubber components leading to brake failure.
ONLY systems designed for DOT5 should use it.
For MR2s use DOT3,DOT4 OR DOT5.1

I no longer work for Toyota Trav. As you would know from BMW, often the worst part of being a mechanic is the customers. I got fed up with the same poo poo, plus a bit of change in management, and i decided to move on. What makes you think Chasers??

$100 a litre is OK. Same price as ELF($48 per 500ml). I run the Alcon/wilwood race spec superlites for the caliper department and tilton master cylinders so they may be OK. I will check to make sure. As for the titanium shims, I will look into this at some stage too. I think it has titanium pistons but will also have to check on this too.
The supplier of the brakes also noted the ducting and location which is as you have stated. I picked up some 3" ducting but will not fit so have to source 2" to make it through the gaps. Another thing on the list..
Thanks for the advise
