The carbon 5.5" clutch is now up and operating, gearbox is also fitted with only a few more nights work till its back on the road.
Looking forward to seeing if I can get below 1000kgs. It will be close!

The car is close to being back on the road. Here are a few picks of what has been done.
I added bracing from the roll over hoop to the chassis rail in front of the engine mounts. The steel is a light gauge but thats all thats needed.
The alternator has been relocated to the front side of the engine using the HUX racing adaptor.This is not a straight forward job. Wiring has to be relocated, a longer belt, additional heat sheilding, machining the underside of the timing plate used for the timing light and relocation of the radiator pipe. If you have a remote oil cooler this may also need some fine tuning to clear the alternator.
The new CF mirrors are from Just Jap. These are light years away from what was there originally. Larger as well as convex.
The brake pedal footplate helps with consistantly hitting the top of the pedals to improve consistancy in pedal operation.
The rear toe has been repaired and dressed up a little. Also remove a degree of metal from the rear hubs for weight reduction and coat of paint did help.
The wastegate was fouling on the dump pipe stopping it from opening completly which may have something to do with the boost spike issue. Can only hope..
So its getting close to being back on track. Looking forward to seeing what this new clutch/diff and rebuilt box will be like. Also not having the rear toe link flapping in the breeze instead of holding it all together..

Finally have the car running again but not without problems. Seems the auto flywheel does not engage with the starter motor on the Gen3 manual.. Had to push start the car today but running well when its up and going.
Just a thanks to they guys who I called for some help today.

The lightened flywheel and 5.5"clutch will take some work to get used to, but it is certainly an upgrade. When it hits boost the shift light it pretty bright, pretty quickly. I always get out that car with butterflies due to the adrenalin. Not sure if it the experience of the car or the worry if I didnt tighten something up. Still, it felt good.

AS for everything else, I will not know until I bed the diff in, set the alignment then turn a few laps at EC or WP.
I also had to rebuild the front bumper as I wacked it into three bite size chunks a few weeks ago. It was reprayed yesterday then scratched today!! Damn..

Still I will be at Toyotafest tomorrow with the car. Hope to see a few from the forum come and say hello

Just an update on this labour of love..
The auto flywheel that I purchased could not be used as the steps in the flywheel fouled with the alloy clutch hub which is used to hold the 5.5"carbon clutch so I removed the centre of the flywheel leaving the ring gear. This worked out well as no Ihave a clean slate to work with. I had a 3mm x 3mm groove cut into the ring gear from which measurements were taken to fabricate a new body for the flywheel. This was CAD designed then cut with a waterjet cutter to a tolerance which was then machined down for an interference fit with the groove in the ring gear and the alloy hub for the clutch. All the holes which are found in the auto flywheel were also cut but the mounting holes for a tourque converter were enlarged to save some weight.
The ring gear and flywheel body was then mig welded together then the alloy hub fitted then off to to be balanced at Dominator engine builders in Guildford. This guy has been a legend speedcar builder for 40yrs.
Today I finally installed the new flywheel and clutch back into the car. Gearbox is also fitted. Clutch slave cylinder, axles and thats it till tomorrow. Expect to have the starter installed. I used a Toyota Echo starter which is just under 3kg lighter than standard MR2. Hope it can handle the pace..Engine and gearbox mounts, subframe, control arms and toe links. Wednesday will be a few odds and ends then ready to start.
Other additions will be a trans cooler, oil catch can,full undertray,alloy inlet pipe, additional fixing to the rear camber adjustment. There are still a few other unfinished items that need to be done which will also be sorted in the next week. All night work this week but really want it on track in two weeks for EC practice then hopefully race at Wakefield Park on the last weekend of the month.

I had a look at a friends RX7 rear suspension assembly over the weekend. There is a strong chance this can be fitted to a MR2. Watch this space!

For all the power junkies out there I have also confirmed the purchase of an engine which is brand new/fully rebuild never started. 2.2ltr, rally spec head, all the fruit including cams, adjustable cam wheels,etc. Made to handle over 600hp. I expect to have it later next year so will be gearing up the fuel system to suit as well as inlet manifold,ECU etc.
The new goal will be 990kg/500hp, new undies...
