need help with gen 1 ecu and gen 2 motor

hey guys need help i bought an mr2 i sold to my mate and it has gen ecu in it with gen 2 motor so as you can imagine its all fun and games desperately need help can i plug a piggy back ecu and re tune it i am trying not put another engine in there if its possible if needed can come look at the car,
just frustrating and unsure where to start ???
any help greatly appreciated

    What year is the vehicle? Does it have the correct loom to suit the ecu or is that what is wrong.

    If you have a rev1 ecu on a rev2 loom then either buy a conversion harness or repin the plugs to suit the ecu.

    im pretty sure that it is rev 1 the model is sw20 1991 na
    okay thankyou so try the loom first?

    What's the part number on that ECU you have?

    So if its a rev 1, does it have a rev 1 ecu and loom? All rev1/2 sw20 came with a gen2 3s engine.

    this is the ecu but the engine isnt the same is there a way i can figure out the 2?

    just been searching through to figure it out its a gen 2 absolutely.
     
    Sorry to be a pain just no mechanic really knows much about mr2s here

    Here's a picture of my ECU. 
     

     
    Note that the part number 89661-17280 is the same but the OEM reference number is different 175700-2302.
     
    My ECU is out of a TYPE I (JDM) SW20 G-Limited with a Generation II 3S-GE.
     
    I'll see if I can find any info on your ECU.

    Would your ECU by any chance happen to be one fitted to UK based 3S-GE powered SW20's? I did a quick google search and they all seem to be UK based sites.
