HOWTO: Tap into the Speedo and RPM wires in the harness.

HOWTO: Tap into the Speedo and RPM wires in the harness.

I needed to do this when i bought myself a Defi VSD. Would of been alot easier to purchase a OBD HUD unit, but SW20s dont have that luxury.

There appears to be some variation of wiring harnesses for 1992 SW20. To narrow this down this was done on a Australian Delivered 260km/h cluster and harness .

Im going to skip straight to the harness after you remove the electrical cluster. This is what you will be looking at:

White plug: A
Blue plug: B
Brown plug: C

For the Speedo
From the Blue Plug B, tap into the the strong purple wire in the middle.
If your car is different. if its a mechanical speedo. The way i figured out the wire is putting my car on jackstands and starting the car and put it in 1st gear. Since there is no load on the wheels it will just spin. Just go through each wire and find the speedo.

For the RPM
Sorry i actually forgot which wire it was. But i recall it was B10. So it must be the third wire from the right in the pic. A easy way to test is to start your car and make contact with the HUD wire and see if you get a reading. (Thats what i did)
