my second clutch in a month.
Right. if any of you guys have followed my thread about my clutch, you will know ive had problems, long story short, was changed new clutch fitted installed and torqued apprantly to spec.
So, my second clutch another Exedy Sports tuff HD clutch, has now done 1200kms, all babied driving nothing over 3500/4000rpm no hard launches, no ow rpm high gear full throttle abuse, no hard downshifts, and no rev matching
and so i decided id give it a go, i gave it a hard lauch a the lights, and it kind of sat there after dumping the clutch a bit then took off, launched at 4000rpm and all i could smell was clutch, shifted second and definite slip, and again smelled clutch, i dont ride the clutch, i know how to drive and never had an issue before these clutches went in,
Frankly im sick of it, and i will never buy another exedy clutch because of it. i chose it because it was boasted one of the best in the world, and sounded good from the reviews i read,
So im thinking, the time the second clutch was put in they said they didnt bleed it up, and my pedal has always felt strange a bit spongy, not the kick back a new clutch should have in the pedal and the bite is kind of hard to tell when it bites hard, sure it bites but its a bit of a struggle to get going facing up hills, even trying to keep the revs up it sort of dies?
So im going to have to bled by my mechanic who i trust and has worked on my cars i had the slave cylinder replaced when it was done the first time, but not the master as it showed zero sign of leaks, ive checked again, fluid is still at full and upon depressing clutch it dosnt rise or sink in the resovoir, im hoping it it just the bleed and dosn't need a new clutch AGAIN.
Ive tried a few hard launches and it hasn't really helped.
Can anyone shed any light or have had similar experiences.

Exedy DO make good clutches, had mine for over 3 years and I've done a few drags at the strip. Sounds like it's not been adjusted properly? Did you machine your flywheel before the new clutch?

Seems strange. Adjustment of the clutch AFAIK can only go bad one way, ie it will not declutch fully, but you will always have max clamping when released. Same with poor bleeding, it just wont declutch fully. If this is the case and you leave it in gear with the clutch in it will continually be slipping and wearing away, but you would smell it I would have thought. and it would be very difficult to select gear from neutral. Re the bleeding, the simplest and quickest way is to pressurise the reservoir and crack the nipple. You only need a few psi (I used a bike pump last time I did it), works a treat. Cheers

Fly wheel was machined both times, by a reputable machiner.
Yes, thats what i thought But im going to have it bled just to be sure.
but think i may have found the issue, this morning i started it and thought i heard a rattle, i turned it off and back on and again some rattle, my misses though i was going insane, so i drove off, and 5 hours ago i took it out again and the same rattle occured, so i popped the engine lid, checked around, did some maintance and thought ill check engine mounts, the rear one that supports the transmission, was loose- so loose i could move to side to side with my hand, so i got under it its missing one bolt and the other was in finger tight, i tried to retighten it but its obviously stripped out
NOT IMPRESSED. will be going back tuesday, as my mechanic has it monday doing the brakes and clutch line. they will either fix it, with new bolts and tap a new thread or ill have a new gearbox. Hed wanna hope my day on tuesday isnt bad.
this obviously could have an effect on clutch issues and putting power to the ground..

Wow, sounds like you really need to start doing your own work... Such an easy job has been turned into a nightmare.

when you say rear engine mount are you talking the one on the passengers side, rear of the car so under the intake manifold or the one under the exhaust manifold

I'm running a bog standard Exedy (not even the HD clutch) with 250rwkw and even I don't have an issue with the clutch gripping... So your problem is most likely from something else, which you seem to have found now.

I hate single plate puck clutches with a passion. Hard on the leg & not good for daily driving (slipping). Yours seems to be worse than I would expect though. Either organic or twin plate for me.

Organic FTW. the clinking of a twin plate annoys me too much.

Haha, im not sure whats going on,
but my sports tuff, the clutch has zero pedal effort like a stock clutch as the box said, but 35 percent more clamp load,
also, its the engine mount the holds the trans to the firewall. guess that would be front engine mount to be exact.
m hoping this is my issue, but the bolt is stripped out, so they either helicoil the gearbox or they owe me a gearbox the way i see it, and a new bolt.
Could this cause my issues a loose engine mount, it just seems like it dosnt grab very hard..

Those bolts often strip out, it isn't uncommon, they are in a !*(# of a spot, cannot usually be torqued properly in situ which results in people 'hanging' off them. Its only an aluminium thread.
