Each to their own... - Toyota D4D Diesel engine conversion
Had this emailed to me just now... it is certainly an interesting conversion prospect. you'd get amazing fuel economy not to mention a lot more range out of the tank, I'd have to wonder about the "ratta-Tatt-Tatt" factor coming from just behind you rather than in front like it does in the hilux. I think as diesels get more and more advanced these types of conversions are going to become a main stream. the new BMW X5 triple turbo diesel produces some huge figures and accelerates like a beast!. http://cars.donedeal.ie/modifiedcars-for-sale/toyota-mr2/6077348

Looks like a neat installation, but still why would you?! Sure it's got decent torque but will only use half the tacho, less than 100kw as well

I guess if you have a 2 with a blown motor and have a D4D sitting around and are a bit bored… I have been driving a 2.0 diesel VW Passat around, it's got a good amount of poke and just sips the smelly oily fuel. (but no fff-chhh)

Widemr - there are good diesel and bad diesel cars. The d4d engine is a Thailand/South African piece of junk. I know.... I used to own a Hilux.
The guy was smoking crack for putting it in the deuce.

I've always been interested in getting my hands on a 2.2L 2AD-FHV D4D motor (132KW & 400NM) and matching EA60 6-speed gearbox from a Toyota Avensis to drop into an AW11 (DieselDub!). Would be an awesome daily :)

BMW Diesels are awesome and the M50D triple turbo previously mentioned is a beast. But please keep Diesels away from your MR2's guys :(

Its not a new technology but it is still an emerging advancement in tech. The diesels have certain characteristics that when coupled to a smart transmission that shifts on the torque points can accelerate like a weapon. I have also seen a Caterham clubman with a diesel donk somehere before too... Must try to locate it. I think its good to see someone thinking outside the box.... I wouldn't do it... but its good to see it

There is a rumour around that someone has fitted a BEAMS to a BMW. What next?
