Which booster? Gen 3 brakes

Hey all,

Currently in the process of changing my whole braking system over to Gen 3 Turbo non ABS system.

I have (or am getting) 93+ rear calipers (22v), 93+ front calipers (36T30), 93+ non ABS 15/16 master cylinder with the proportioning valve.  So all I need now is the brake booster...but which one?

There is the w51, the w53, and w57 that all came off the 93+ models.  Anyone shed some light on this?  Are they model specfic - 93+ turbo and 93+ non turbo?  And are they specific to ABS?  I do NOT want ABS.

Any information would be appreciated.

"There is the w51, the w53, and w57 that all came off the Gen 3 models".

Although we sort of know what you mean, using the term 'Gen 3' is confusing because it only has relevance to motors, so maybe best to go by model build dates when looking for brake parts.

The big brakes came in late '92 along with a more powerful booster with the 15" wheels and different suspension.
That was the first brake upgrade, but I believe Toyota then fitted even more powerful boosters post 11/93, so they may be best ones to look for.
Anyway if you want to use a non-ABS M/C I would think you'll need a booster that came from a non -ABS car.

Reddtarga - thanks for that, I have edited OP.

Ok - so found out a few more things about boosters.
The W51 is specific to the non-ABS, the W53 specific to ABS and they are both post 92 up to late 93.
So, going by this, I'd say the W57 come in after 11/93, however is specific to ABS.

Whether or not they were fitted to turbo or non turbo cars...well thats a different story.  I got no idea.

    Ok people,

For those who are interested, finally think I have this sorted with brake boosters and master cylinders.  A big thanks to 'mrmr2' for his help in this matter as well.

So...this is for the boosters and master cylinders from 1993 (late 1992) onwards.

    1993 (late 1992) NON turbo
    - Booster, non ABS, (w51), Part number 44610-17300
    - Master Cylinder 15/16, non ABS, Part number 47201-17230

    1993 (late 1992) NON turbo
    - Booster with ABS, (w53), Part Number 44610-17280

    - Master Cylinder 15/16, ABS, Part Number 47201-17250

    1993 (late 1992) turbo
    - Booster, non ABS, (w51), Part number 44610-17300
    - Master Cylinder 15/16, non ABS, Part number 47201-17230

    1993 (late 1992) turbo
    - Booster, ABS, (w53), Part Number 44610-17280
    - Master Cylinder 15/16, ABS, Part Number 47201-17250

    http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1995_TOYOTA_MR2_SW20-AJMZZ_4702.html

Phew. And for those who want Traction Control with their master cylinder, Part number 47201-17240.

So as you can tell, there is no difference between non turbo and turbo models.  The differences occur with the ABS and non ABS.

That's a lot of different boosters, but I believe the best one to look for would be the post 11/93 one.
I have found the  later boosters have a lot more power than the earlier ones, even though they look very similar apart from the vacuum check valve location.

I know many people with ABS cars simply make up new pipes to bypass the ABS, and keep their ABS booster and M/C.
