Other OEM ECU options for a SMT>MT conversion

Well i have decided to ditch the SMT set-up for a more conventinal MT but when looking at the MWR SMT>MT kit it only states it comes with a manual transmission ECU that is used and has no immobilizer. Now correct me if im wrong but i don't think an american ECU with work on our cars without some error codes and im sure the american spyders have a few extra emission systems (I got an american repair manual)
Now i've read on a few places that the 1zz-fe equipped celica has the same 1zz-fe motor (bigger valves, different conrod material) that the spyder got, so would it's ecu work? i only need a OEM ECU for now as once the manual is in, a 2zz will be coming later and i will be going powerFC with that and if i read the email i got from apexi right the 2zz powerFC is slightly different to the 1zz version

the US cars have a tank venting system we don't have an it will throw codes. lack of immobilizer is not a problem.

the celica and spyder ecu's have several differences

    done several of these

what ECU do you guys use to replace the SMT combo?
I thought the American ones would be an issue, would a JDM MT ECU work? It can't be too hard to get one of those, would any 1zz MT throttle body work?

i know bill would replace the ecu and wiring loom from the uk and too what ive seen road and track have previously brought manual spyders from japan but why go to all the trouble and cost if your going to do a 2zz swap oneday anyways

I'd go straight 2zz swap if I had a job or more funds, but as my work saw it fit to dismiss me due to my back injury which I got because of their lack of safety on the site, so as a result I'm using what I've saved up over the years to convert to MT, then sell off the HPU, GSA and other SMT bits to hopefully help cover some of the cost.
2zz will be coming later as I want to get some form of work first and i will be getting a few extras on it like the full PPE exhaust and intake plus powerFC ECU, might also get some stage 2 cams in it so I'd rather get it all then swap
Plus apart from the cost of parts for the SMT>MT kit I only need a MT ECU? so I'm already half way to a 2zz swap for later
But saying that if it is going to be too hard to find a compatible OEM ECU for my swap then then I will be selling the motor/transmission/exhaust/SMT parts and what ever else is not 2zz compatible and buying the bits in stages like sweetpete is/was doing, if I go that way you may be able to get those stage 1 cams cheaper and installed already

Sorry too hear about your job!
Well I look forward to seeing how 1zz goes with these mods, you still haven't shown me how it goes with the stage one cams :P
I understand the $$ situation all our funds going towards Joel aw11 so I've been promised if any $$ left I can buy my headers I want / need lol

Well it looks like I'm selling everything in the engine bay, just spoke to road and track and they will sell a 2zz+manual conversion kit for 5k, I'll have to install it thou. I properly put up a sale thread soon.
What exhaust headers were you after? The current PPE set-up I have are not compatible with the 2zz so they will be going, only two issues with them thou
    1. I believe the high flow cat was the cause of my ECU running the car quite lean and me having to get a unichip
    2. The normal joint that allows you to connect the mid-pipe to catback is not there, it kept leaking to I got an exhaust shop to cut and weld it but I want to keep my catback for the 2zz

Cams were alright, they recovered the little bit of low and mid range that the PPE headers lost and added some more punch in those areas

I'm just after headers without the pre cat chambers as we removed the pre cats and we found it was getting too hot for the O2 sensors!
I'd defiantly be interested in your cams though.
Glad to hear the deal, might have to challenge Pete to a race to install! Lol

2zz+Mt it is but I'm going to source it all myself and use MWR kit B to make the car a manual
lol, pete may be ahead but I got all day to do my install.
I have put up a for sale thread for all parts going
