:D! I look forward to reading your first impression once you have driven it. I love reading build threads, always learn something new - I didn't realise the looms were the same!

MR2QIK: Thanks Jay, I'm sure it will be. Probably go through about 4tanks of petrol as well. [:x)]

Lumix Thanks mate! I had no idea the looms would be exactly the same either, I figured there would be some wiring involved. There is little info about this type of swap, glad to help anyone that's thinking about doing it. Will have a write up on how it is compared to the 3sge, should be pretty interesting as I really liked the n/a.

I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised when you first drive your car after the 3S-GTE conversion Adrian.

WIDEMR: Hey Brendan, cheers man. Yeah well my n/a started leaking oil from a few seals and needed to be dropped. Seemed like a 3sgte conversion was the logical thing to do [:x)] Been a lot of fun, can't wait to drive the thing!

Mistertwo: I hope so, there's certainly no turning back at this point [88] Guess it was a bit of a gamble never having driven a stockish gen3 one. I'm sure I will love it, hearing it idle had me sold!

I'll be honest....I'm jealous. Not of the car (although it is nice), but of the excitement of picking up a car after such a major upgrade. It'll be like buying another car

Dez: Thanks, It sure is! Had it ready to drive home by Friday arvo I'll pm you about the exhuast.

MR2QIK Exactly right Jay, I was ecstatic about be able to take it on its first drive around the block. Luckily it was problem free! Already done about 300ks in it without any hiccups, runs beautifully. The only thing is it seems to only boost to 0.8 bar. I suspect it could be due to a boost leak even though it stays very steady at .8 bar.

Kameleon: Turns out you were correct, Initially the car would only cold start then turn the fuel pump off. Ian had hoped this was due to the alternator plug not being wired in yet.Ian had to bridge a wire in the fuse box to keep the pump on. This is really only a temporary solution, the permanent fix is to rewire one of the plugs in the boot. I have a feeling it will be an easy fix, I will post up my results. As for now I don't seem to mind as I'm having too much fun driving it!

Updates

The car is on the road and what a transformation this engine has made to the car. I will do a little write up on my initial impressions in my next post.

Everything seems to be running well. Taking it relatively easy on it just to make sure everything is perfect, though this is easier said than done. Plans are to cover a minimum of around 500ks (already done 300) and do another oil/filter change + new plugs sometime later next week, which I'm sure most will think unnecessary but I would rather be safe than sorry. Then it should be ready to get the PowerFC tuned

I seem to be having a boost issue, it is boosting happily and steady to .8 bar which is apparently lower than expected. From my understanding it should be somewhere near 1bar. I will check for leaks tomorrow, I have a feeling the bov may be leaking. It seems to boost to .8 perfectly though, the needle stays there and does not move. I might try out another gauge as well just in case.

Pics
Note* Still needs a detail which I should do tomorrow. It also still needs the bov recirculation hose and/or the part of the intake blocked off.

Awesome stuff! Should sort out the boost issue before tuning, but it doesn't sound major as 0.8bar is only really just shy of 12psi (so a bit over 1psi off).

MR2QIK: I thought I should expect around 1bar with the dump pipe and exhaust. Like I said it is very steady at .8bar so I will try another gauge and see. Either way, this thing is freaking quick! I know understand why you guys say mr2 turbos are very underrated.

Also I forgot to mention it seems to idle perfectly at 1100rpm and about 1500 when cold. Any ideas what could be causing this, could it possibly be boost leak related? Perfectly steady, just obviously high. So far I have only checked the throttle cable, which is not the problem

looks good, .8 doesn't seem off to me personally.

however that idles quite high, water temp sensor connected/working?

also are you running no aircleaner with the bov return hose off or are you just driving around wogstyles? :)
