SETTINGS FOR MY ALIGNMENT SUGGESTIONS?

Guys,
just installed my BC BR coilovers and am going for a wheel alignment, with my suspension guy,

I have in mind this
2 degrees camber up front
0.2mm of toe in front,
and as much castor as possiblle
and rear
1.5 degress
0.5mm toe in

does that sound it will give an overall great handeling car?
it is primarily used for street, with 3-5 track events a year, will be at the event in Jan ;)

Siggestions welcomed.

Having tracked a few different alignments on my AW11, I found when I ran 2mm toe out on the front, it made the car much better at turn in and removed any hint of understeer.

Sounds like a good start. Not sure on the tow in up front but worth trying to see what happens

I've got BC RM coilovers and have tried a few different alignments. Mine's a 97 with the later suspension so you might need slightly different settings. Here's my experience:

    Front:
Tried 1.5mm toe out per side. Turn in was noticeably sharper, especially at higher speeds. Even just on the drive down to Wakefield on the freeway I noticed lane changes happened much quicker and required very little steering input. Actually had to concentrate a bit to keep it going dead straight. Inside edge of the tyres got smashed even though I was at the track almost every month. I wouldn't got more than 1mm toe out per side, maybe even less if you're not tracking as much.

Camber I think something like 2-2.5 degrees would be good.

    Rear:
I started with 2mm toe in per side. Was nice and predictable. After a few bumps and spins it somehow ended up at 0mm toe both sides. Still handled well.

Camber started at 1.5 degrees or thereabouts. No where near enough. The outside shoulders were hammered after 1 track day. I bumped it out once or twice more and probably ended up at around 2-2.5 degrees which seemed to work.

I'll be going for another alignment soon once I pick up my semi slicks. Here's the settings I'll go for:

    Front
Toe: 0.75mm out per side (1.5mm total toe out)
    Camber: 2.5 degrees

    Rear
Toe: 1mm in per side (2mm total toe in)
    Camber: 2.5 degrees

I'll keep a good eye on tyre wear after the first event and make any changes as necessary but I think it should be pretty close. Main thing I'll be watching for is outside shoulder wear due to incorrect camber.

For the older rear suspension I think an extra couple of mm toe in at the back would be needed. If you're running street tyres, 2 degrees camber should be enough.

    Yeah sounds great

    So not the toe in
I believe I may have the revised suspension as I have the bigger brakes the front lip etc
An it's a late 92 model so I'm not to sure anyway to check?

    Ok so teo it out?
No worries I'll run the 2 degrees front and 2 degrees rear
And then teo it out a bit

Does that sound like the go?

    Any other suggestions?

I want something that handles well and maintains good tyre life
    So I was thinking this

    Front
    Max castor forward
    2.5/2 degrees neg camber
    0.5mm toe out
    Rear
    2 degrees neg camber
    .5mm toe in

Or should I toe it out??

With 3mm total toe out at the front the inside tyre wear was horrible. I think with 1.5mm I should be OK. 1mm might be better if you're not tracking it every month.

And something like 2 or 4 mm toe in at the back should be good. Look up photos and compare to check which rear suspension you have

    HA HA!
You make me laugh Dasic, just asking as I tend to steer clear of them, but taking my own specs there it should be ok!

Easy to tell what you have, just look on the drivers side door post placard to see what tyres were fitted stock.
    15" should mean later suspension.
    14" Should mean early suspension.
The main difference between the two will be the rear X-member, with the later type having the longer track arms.
Also if you have the later suspension you won't be able to adjust front caster without aftermarket caster rods.

There is a small amount of adjustment available from the slop in the stock strut bolts.

But - if that is not enough you can get so called 'crash bolts' from Toyota in 3 sizes (Genuine parts BTW)
They are identified by the number of 'dots' on the head of the bolt.
There are other brands available but I would recommend only using the genuine Toyota ones.
Do you know anyone who can get them for you cheap ha ha?

Anyway you would only need one crash bolt per corner.
If you are really worried about it maybe grab a couple of the middle size and take them to the alignment place when you take your car in, and you may need them for the front as well and they could come in handy later if you go to more extreme settings.
