Manual gearbox into a ST246

Hi Terry,
What is involved in converting a ST246 to manual transmission?
Thanks

Mr Glengineering.

Dont think it has ever been done so who knows.  Obviously need to install a clutch pedal.  May need a custom tail shaft, not sure :)  You'd have to buy one and try it.

theres a guy on toymods that has done a manual conv in a caldina..

think you need all the manual bits from the earlier model

sorry, dont know. never done a 24 model. if its the same as earlier 215, then easy enough.
note, the GT4 stuff wont suit!!!

Since there were never any manual ST246's (even the non turbo models), such a conversion would require a lot of attention to get right.

fitting a manaul into a 215 is all plug and play.
i need a 246 here to investigate that model.
my guess is it will not be simple as the wiring/electronics will be different for sure
mechanics wont be a big hassle
the auto tailshaft is different in 215, so i assume will also be in 246. custom sharfts are easy
shifter/console can probably come from the lower spec models.

There's no lower spec MT shifter/console from that shape/interior, so would need to be a custom.

i swapped st246 from AT to Manual transmission. it's simply.
you need: manual gearbox from st-205 celica or st-215 caldina, flywheel, clutch pedal, clutch cylinder,
gear shifter et.c. I live in moscow/russia, here's some caldinas that was swapped from automatic to mechanical transmission

Whoa awesome gcat! Drives much better in manual?

mr2qik: yes! drive much better! now i can start from 7000rpm =)
i forgot to say, right drive shaft with cv joints from celica st205.
currently done: AP-Racing front brakes with 330mm rotor, custom exhaust 3" with blitz nurspec, frontal intercooler (universal, made in china) 550x230x65,  in/out 2.5"
turbo hybrid celica st205 and garrett t3/t4 (t04e) (recently was broken, large oil leak!!!)
870cc injectors siemens deka, walbro 400l/h fuelpump, ECU january5.1 from LADA. it's a copy of ecu  bosch, made in russia. many cars in russia tuned up with this ecu, because it can be completely reprogrammed and adjust the ignition, fuel injection et.c.
pistons and rods are stock, but i plan to change it to forged cp or eagle. acceleration now is about 5s to 100km/h
video on youtube: (start from 2s)  (or, if this video will be moderated here, try to find "toyota caldina 0-100 + mt + tuned ecu january 5.1",

and i have a car blog, but in russian. i think you can try a translate.google.com to read this

i did so: (shifter case from st215)

How do the pedals look? Did you retain the foot handbrake/ebrake?

This is cool, the only thing stopping me from buying one was Auto only.

we are getting quite a few caldinas in to fix but no-one round here seems to want to spend any serious $ on them. great car really. much nicer to drive than Subaru and fells a lot less cumbersome than Stagea, which always feels front heavy with plow understeer.

of all the engines we have fixed, most problems relate to broken conrods after big boost increases and damaged/cracked turbo manifolds.

The 4spd auto was an epic fail. Feels like 20year old technology & long gearing. If it were a 5spd auto, would've been much better.

Sorry for the delay was on vacation traveling to Thailand ;)
i havent own photos of pedal look, but it looks the same! (like on upper photo with a big brake pedal)

i retain a foot parking brake, all OK =) and now i have a 4 pedals =)))))))
but somebody rework a foot parking brake to handbrake.
handbrake lever from st215 and handmade brackets, parking brake cables removes to the salon

But with this place more please =)
I recently happened trouble - broke one conrod, when i started fast with boost 1.3, punched a hole in the oil pan,
engine was destroyed. now i'm waiting a delivery of Engine 3SGTE from Vladivostok (town near with Japan, where a lot of japan right-hand-cars) to Moscow, where I live and I will immediately enhance an engine after it arrival.  i will install EAGLE rods, ST205 pistons,
that we sharpen a lathe for that would lower the compression ratio. (somebody even fit pistons from 1JZGTE!!!)
and a question: how fixed a 3SGTE in Australia from broken conrods? forged rods  like eagle and forged pistons like cp/wiseco?

the stock 215 rod is same as early 3SG non turbo. made lighter than old turbo rod and these fail
i use various types of forged piston and rod depending on customers need.
the usual Weisco and Ross forged pistons have low compression for earlier 3SGTE. The 215 uses higher compression piston
1JZ piston needs other modifications to clear the crank in 3SGTE
email me directly if you want to buy correct parts
