AW11 Steering Column Shaft Assembly Component

So after a constant battle of attempting to remove the dead spot from my steering, my mechanic found out that there is free play within the shaft assembly.

I havent personally seen the component myself, but the way it was described is that there is a shaft/spline that fits between a sleeve in the steering column shaft.

from the image, with item 45201 being the shaft, it is the part that is before the uni joint which is apparently split into 2 components. somehow there has developed heaps of free play there so im looking to buy that piece from anyone who might have a spare (without freeplay). Don't require the whole shaft but merely that portion of it (If it is detachable?)

I hope explained that correctly

thanks!

I just had a look on Amayama for you and the whole shaft sub assembly is available new for about $225 plus postage if that interests you?
It appears to be a complete unit not separate sections. Part number I searched for is 45210-17010

Just because its on Amayama doesn't mean its still available. But there is no harm in trying to order it and seeing if they do really have it.

i don't think the 45201 part actually splits. where it normally splits before toyota assemble it they punch the collor to hold it together. and it near impossible to open the punch. usually this collar is what gets sloppy. most common fix is people weld the shaft and collar.

Hey thanks for the response guys,

I've never used amayama website before, does seem much cheaper than lithia toyota which was the other one i looked at.

wiso do you know roughly how much it would cost to get it welded? i have no experience in doing so myself.

still mixed about wether its worth forking out the cash (im still a student after all) for a new piece.

this is part of the  collapsing column system (crash protection) so welding them together is not a clever suggestion.

in any case, welding any part of the steering column is not a legal mod and needs a full engineering assessment (more cost than the part is worth)

we can generally offer a better price than Amayama if there is still any stock in japan
