Bathurst 12hr 2014

It is 6 months till the Bathurst 12hr, entries are open with more and more internationals coming out for a drive. Really do hope Mark Webber slots into a Porsche GT3RS  and Casey Stoner grabbing a seat somewhere too for the 12hr but there are a few top international drivers coming out for the race.
I have been staying at the Bathurst Goldfields Hotel for the last four years with the fortunate option of being pre-booked for every year until the end of time. This year I have reserved a third room for MR2 owners interested in coming to the event. It will sleep 4-5 people, is a 100mtr walk to the kink at Forest Elbow where you can stand on the huge concrete fence to watch the car's fly down conrod straight. You can also walk up the hill to Forest Elbow then over the top of the mountain.
There is a access road at the rear of the complex to the town. Once the track is closed for the day, you can catch a cab down conrod straight to the town for dinner or drive yourself there.
If there is enough interest, a slot in the club parade can be achieved where we all do a lap of the track on the Saturday then display the cars behind the grandstand on pit straight. At least six cars are required. It was great to {breifly) say hello to the Victorians who made the journey last year and hope to see you guys back in 2014.

Been a while since I've been on the forum, thought I would check the status on this event. I think you'd be happy to know that this event is being considered by the club, however no plans have been made for it yet. It's great that you've saved a spot for the club, and in case no one else has messaged you about the accommodation you should contact Joel or Tracey as this might give them a leg to make this event 'official'.

I know there are still spots available for camping too even though it is getting late.

My Dad and I went last year and the year before, we found your videos of the race on youtube, great shots especially on conrod! How did you manage to get up there though? We couldn't figure it out....

hope to see you on the mountain next year :)

It would be really great to see a few MR2 owners from NSW attending this next year.

There will probably be a small contingent from Vic MR2 club attending again including myself. Not sure of the numbers at this stage because we are preoccupied with the Nationals in TAS.
But I suspect that we may be camping in the middle of the circuit like the last few years.

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for the update. I went for a walk through the campsite on the Saturday night. I did spot the MR2's but it was pretty late so will try again in 2014.
Glad you enjoyed the video clips. I was right into motorsport video work for a few years but the MR2 has taken some of that energy away! I also do not take my trusty Hi8 camera to the track like I did in the past(mobile phone tech..). The footage from Conrod was taken at the property next door to Bathurst Goldfields. We stay at the Goldfields for the B12hr. The place next door provides 5 star accommodation to people with enough money to spend. We befriended the owner who was happy to allow us access to the property to watch the racing from his 'front fence'. As there was only three of us, it was easy to secure this prize location.
I have also been to LeMans/Maulsane straight where I managed some pretty cool footage (on my youtube site) but the day on Conrod was just as good and that is really saying something.
I will send a email to confirm the third room is available in 2014. If it is secured, I will make sure its available for three club members. The house next door is available for $3000 for the race meet at has accommodation for 8 people.

    Cheers

I just returned from 4 days and 4 nights at Bathurst for the 12 hour race. Easily the best race I have ever seen at the circuit. The B1000 is a great race but the 12hour is basically two 1000's with 6 classes, varied speeds of cars with the top class of cars being massively quick.
The sun was cooking everyone and everything like eggs but the on track action made up for any concerns the sun gave everyone.
The clubs are slowly joining in with BMW Club having been there since I cannot remember. The Supercar club was on display with 5 MaClaren's , Rolls Royce Phantoms and some other exotics. The Nissans were peppered all over the track to the return of the GTR and the Holden and Ford owners were there to support the event as well. There were also a bunch of MR2's who managed to get their numbers up to 11 for the Saturday cruise session around the track in front of the crowds. Great to see they managed to get the numbers this time round. Hopefully they will be back in 2015 with many more of the marque.
If there is only one race you would put time aside to experience, aside from F1 in Melbourne this is the only choice. 2015 will be bigger and better with Mark Webber a strong possibility to make it out for the drive. We can only hope.

A fantastic weekend, but but wow was it hot!!
It was a great buzz to do a parade lap with the 10 other MR2's in front of all the spectators, flag marshals etc.
This event seems to be getting even better as more and more people become aware of it.
This year there were some very fast cars competing from the Ferrari, Mclaren, AMG, Audi, Lamborogini, and Porsche racing teams to mention just a few.
There were noticably more people at this year's event compared to previously, so I would expect next year to be even better.
