Kyoto Japan

Just wondering if anyone has had much experience in kyoto?
I'm planning to do 6 months working holiday there this year. So I thought I'd post and see if anyone has any recommendations, any stories, or even any contacts over there for social/living and even part time work contacts.
Everything is appreciated. My plan is to go over in September

Kyoto has awesome temples, a bit laid back compared to osaka or tokyo and you can get around everywhere with a bicycle if you are so inclined. Really nice, you are going to love it there.
