Mechanical Inspection Day - President's Report

Our first "Mechanical Inspection Day" on the 6th of July 2013 was a great success, with just the right number of cars attending to facilitate the planned process running smoothly. Although there have been so-called "servicing days" held in the past, the intention yesterday was to give owners a chance to inspect their cars top to bottom under the expert eye of our two qualified Technical Directors, Scope and Dennis TM.

What also added greatly to the way the process worked was the ability to use the fantastic Scope Cave, which as a workshop is second to none. Having a proper four point hoist to lift the cars safely to permit complete under body inspections certainly made a difference, especially when there wasn't the constant nagging feeling in the back of people's minds as to what the time on the hoist was costing them. Scope constantly demonstrated his knowledge transfer skills to the maximum, and without him and Mrs Scope (alias "Cruise Control") we couldn't have activities like this one.

The Club welcomed Joel and his father John in Joel's luxury yacht - sorry - Supra , and one of the photos shows Falcon trying to figure out how he could fit the Supra engine into his MR2, particularly after learning from Scope that his belts were dry. Rumour has it that Falcon was awake all last night worrying about his belts and finally got out of bed to oil them.

We also said hello to the Doctor (who?) and Andrew who came in the Doctor's immaculate AW11 hard top. After this car was put up on the hoist and inspected there were deep mutterings from Andrew for some reason along the lines of how he should have bought the car, and not the Doctor. It was further noted by some that another well-known AW11 owner was seen casting an evil eye over the Doctor's car when remarks were made about it being one of the best ever seen. I have to add here that it did have a blue interior, which of course means that it is not really an AW11 and makes it almost unsuitable for Australian roads.

All in all it was a top day, the food and facilities put on by Mrs Scope were really appreciated, and it is this type of activity that makes having a Club very satisfying.

Thanks for a great day everyone and particularly to Scope and Mrs Scope for the use of the Scope Cave.  AndyO and I found the day very illuminating and I learnt not to trust friends who are plotting to "repossess" your car!  I may have to keep an eye on the President too.  I have replaced the ignition leads with OEM ones and the engine is purring like a kitten again.  I have new engine mounts sitting in a box ready to go on and after Scope's inspection, the day to put them on would appear to be very close.  Andrew and I enjoyed meeting the crew and we will be looking to come along to a run soon; just as soon as he gets his running properly.

    Thanks again
