Possibility of a dyno day...

Hey Everyone

I was talking with Danny and Elliot last night about maybe organising some sort of dyno day in the near future, since there hasn't been any mr2 ones in Queensland for a while. Would be a good chance to see what numbers we are all making ;)

Now I have never done a dyno run, or organised a dyno day before, so anyone who has experience with this should come forth to make life easier :P

Also if people could register their interest, then we could decided if it is a viable option or not. If there isnt enough people, we can always bring in friends of the club or maybe have a mr2/mx5 club shootout ;)

Thanks

-Eric

Depending on time and dollars I could be interested.  Should really see what the wee beastie is making at the moment - she'd probably appreciate a bit of attention . . .

Eric, although we have the All Japanese Day down as the Club activity for June on Sunday the 9th (don't forget the Roll Call already posted if you are reading this and planning to participate) there is also something else being planned for the end of June on the mechanical side which I am sure everyone who can will want to participate in. Not all the details are finalised yet so we aren't creating expectations, but keep an eye out on the Forum before the end of this week.

This is not to say that if people want to organise a dyno or other type of activity they shouldn't, and I'd encourage any member who wants to research and then propose an outing, including costs, etc. to do so. Knightrous organised a Run and a dyno session 18 months ago which he had to put a lot of work into, so it certainly can be done.

We just have to make sure that any outing is sanctioned as a Club Inc. proposal to provide liability protection for the organisers, just as we have done with Downshift. PM me or give me a call if you want to understand more about this.

Easiest way is to attend the SlideWize Dyno Comp & Car Show

    https://www.facebook.com/events/548244981892797/

    Dyno Classes:
    Naturally Aspirated:4 cylinder, 6 & 8
Boosted (Turbo, supercharged or Nos) 4, 6 & 8 cylinder.
Rotaries will be in the 6cylinder class.
Trophies will be awarded to the highest outright horsepower in each class.

    Car Show classes:
    # Best Bright work (Chrome, stainless & polished alloy)
    # Smoothest engine bay
    # Finest paint work
    # Coolest 'old school' (pre-1986)
    # Toughest modern (post-1986)
    # Best presented interior.
    # Best presented racing vehicle (speedway, off roader, rally, drag, circuit car or racing-cart.)

    Skid pan:
The skid pan will be busy making lots of noise.
Selected drivers from the 'Slidewize' crew will be taking spectators for 'Slide Rides'.
Spectators will be treated to 4 min of driving fury!!

It's a simple, no fuss way of getting everyone to the dyno without the management drama (Herding MR2 owners to a track day or a dyno day is like herding cats).

+1 I've been up there now heaps of times for the skidpan days... brilliant location, great friendly bunch of people and very well organised...  I'm still to workout if I'll be going up there and taking people out on the skidpan...
Need a new mechanic if anyone can recommend one!!

Although the Slidewize dyno day organisation is taken care of, it would be nice to have a few hours of dyno time at a central Brisbane location.  Either tagging along to another dyno day or all chipping in for a workshop to give us a few hours of back to back runs.

I'm not interested in a shoot-out style event to compare numbers, I just want a cheap way of getting some data logs and torque/power graphs without running the risk of being booked on the highway.

Curses for not personally knowing someone that owns a dyno near Brisbane

Close enough for me, may be a bit far for those who are North of the river, however there's always the Slidewize Dyno shootout in Gympie that Aaron mentioned.
