VIC: Datafunks 1987 AW11
so, i've been on the hunt for an aw11 for a while now, browsing ebay, gumtree and carsales several times a day do the past few months, finally saw one that took my fancy, price was okay, getting it road worthied at the moment, got a few things on the list, its extensive, but not as bad as i was expecting (I have terrible luck with vehicles, so i expect the worst). But, this is my dream car, and now I've got it. from what i can tell; not original;wheels steering wheel gear knob front grill floor mats exhaust (will probably leave this) missing;rear clear visor ash tray lid stickers

Mate, they're nearly all missing the ashtray lid! But it makes a really good storage spot for a Nokia C5 mobile.

Yeah the front grill should look like the one you posted. Also that is not an original colour. Looks like you have a good one though, nice find!

Grey metallic is a factory colour, it may have just been the case he was pointing out the lack of decals/badging on the car. If you look on the build plate (in the frunk hiding on the front side panel) you should find the paint code is 167. I can't spot anything else that's non-factory. Your rear bumper gap looks like it's been taken off and poorly put back on, or hiding some fixed repairwork, so might be worth looking at it, could be nothing though. Also the factory steering wheels are heavy, so the wheel it has on there probably feels a lot better to drive. I'd just replace it with something that's not Super Cheap Auto spec. You might find you need one with a padded centre for roadworthy. You're also missing the original gearstick boot, these are really hard to find original Toyota ones, you should be able to find a better aftermarket one that screws up to the plate that's left exposed in the pics though. Some pics of the engine bay, frunk and boot we might find a few trim pieces you are missing, if it matters to you. Otherwise best of luck with the roadworthy!

Im with maj on the bumper, may have been rear ended or bumped as most aw11's ive seen with the bumper like that have had some type of accident! but you'd be lucky to find one that hasnt. you can buy the decals on ebay. but if its still running well and panels seem clean you've done well for buying a 26 year old car!

Yep the eBay decals are good and they allow a small level of customisation, in my case I got them to match the JDM Super Charger badging and it turned out good. I personally wouldn't care if it's had a minor rear end repair, just might be worth checking out to ensure no rust etc. It was worth pointing it out for your own info more than anything substantial. Agreed if it's running well, you should be happy with your purchase!

ordered; rear clear visor front grill gear knob new front left and ride indicators/parkers (for rwc) going to start looking at parts for servicing it. I also went into the mechanics today and had a closer look at the grill... it's just some home job with mesh, glad i ordered the stock one. Looking at Aus delivered thread, I'm guessing mine was not an Australia delivered one as the VIN's in the 25's not 27's. for roadworthy its getting these plus some other minor things; - wheel hub spacers - exhaust flange gasket leaking/stud missing - front bushes worn - RHR wheel bearing - discs and pads - distributor oil seal leaking - radiator tanks leaking - front/rear sway bar mount bushes worn. thinks it'll be ready next tuesday or so, booked in at Vic roads on the Friday.

nice buy mate. i always like them in gunmetal.
what on earth is the go with that centre console. looks like someone has screwed a frame to the top of it to hold the boot down. if your interested i have a good condition centre console. if you feel like replacing it later on.
now the fun parts begin. fixing up all the bad points so you can enjoy the car. haha. its always a pre-requesite buying an AW. done heaps of them now. HAHA
you should be able to tell if its an aus delivered if it has an adr compliance plate fixed in the front rather than an engineer mod plate.

no idea about the centre console, barely had a chance to look at the car, went straight from the guys place in to get a rwc. can't wait to get to go over it with a fine tooth comb after the rwc is done. so i may indeed get that centre console off you if need. just want to get it all running right n' such. am i able to go into repco and the like and buy the right belts for this car? or do you reccomend going through the dealership to get all the oil filter and belts ect for a service? yeah definitely loving the gunmetal, does have a few scratches (major just below the front badge) and a few minor scratches around the car itself, most obvious one is on the drivers door, might havre a crack at fixing them myself or not. i'll eventually go with a tri-colour scheme i think. but thats a long way down the track. so excited to own a car i like again, i had a 84' supra, but got rid of it for a ute when the engine died, huge mistake. hated the ute so much, should have swapped in a v8 or something. this car's a keeper though.

so it got its rwc. drove it home and put it in the garage, will give it a wash and a better look over tomorrow. took some quick pics, first question... what fuel should i be running? second question, is this button stock? i think it might be a car alarm? and yeah, i might grab that centre console off you, can you PM me the details ect. and it came with the owners manual and warranty book woo. more pics to follow over the weekend. just glad to have it in my hands now. also needs a new radiator soonish, are the ones on ebay okay? or not reccomended? radio's not working as far as i can tell... is it stock? gave it a good hand wash, noticed a few things, quick vac inside as well. these are the wheels that came with it... definitely looking for stock ones when i get enough funds. not in a hurry really. this is the radio... is it stock? manual doesn't seem to show it. figured out that button in my previous post is for the antenna... just left of the middle of the steering wheel you can see it, with a red light next to it... is that stock? or what? check out my awesome grill...... haha... stock one arrived, will put that on asap! can you buy more of these? or only second hand? missing two to put my rear visor on. is anyone able to tell me what that key is with the M on it? doesn't seem to work with the doors or boot. i don't think it works on the ignition (i think that was the key i first tried)

Nice looking car. You are in for a treat and just a few challenges. I think most of us run 98 octane to get the best from the cars. The switch you refer to looks like an aftermarket alarm/seurity system. Check the blogs about the eBay radiators. I understand that they are okay and fit nicely but some do not have the tube for bleeding the system after a coolant change which can be a PITA. Cassette radio looks stock. It was a Phillips system. I tried to resurrect mine but couldn't get the parts need to make the cassette player work again. I opted for a Nakamichi cassette player which looks the part and plays well. The original system had an automatic antenna. The key looks like a security key for an after market steering wheel lock. I think you will find it is a W not an M. The key is useless without the steering lock which were a hazard in the cabin anyway. I look forward to more posts. Cheers

feared as much, well the antenna is no longer auto, as thats what the switch does. the car has remote locking and such, i think this came with the security system? might look at getting another 80's radio... but then i'd have to get all the electrics done (and a new dash panel, argh) to make it all stockish again... mmm also, all of a sudden, the bonnet as stopped "popping" up after i pull the release mech, i think the cable has stretched somehow... any easy way of tightening it or do i have to pull it apart in the frunk area?

the bolts that hold the clear visor are different to the bolts on the c pillar trims.
