NIGHT CRUISE SAT 18 MAY 2013 - PRESIDENT'S REPORT
The Night Cruise is a highlight of the Queensland MR2 Year, and after voyaging through Brisbane City in 2012 it was decided that Surfer's Paradise should be the focus for 2013. After a feast at Yatala Pies the cruising team set out to enjoy the delights that "The Esplanade" and surrounds had to offer, although it was noted before the start that it was probably a bit cold for the famous Meter Maids to be out and about. This was despite the overall awesome attractiveness of our cars at night.
Various disguises were adopted by cruise participants (see the photos - you know who you are) but this didn't stop one junior bystander telling his parents loudly as we stopped to admire the view in Surfer's Paradise..."look Daddy, racing cars!". This was despite the 50kph speed limit being rigorously adhered to, so it really confirmed to Skyline owners and other people who also require the same psychiatric assessment that MR2's look fast even when standing still.
Despite the cars shining, the music doof-doofing, the neon's neoning, and a great time being had by all, the guardian's of our roads seemed focused elsewhere, a particularly poignant incident being us all stopped in a car park while a Highway Patrol car soared past with a Mitsubishi Mirage in their sights. No doubt the occupants later wished they had been driving an MR2 as our bonnets never get hot from racing like theirs appeared to be after being stopped.
Apart from yours truly falling over at the end of the cruise (drunk?? there was no blood in my alcohol I assure you) the night went off without a hitch, with the supper of chocolate cake and cheesecake at the end being a fitting conclusion to a top outing.
Enjoy the photos, and don't forget the All Japanese Day on the 9th of June!!
