HELP - Your hard earned experience, knowledge, wisdom and advice please!

Hi Mr2 owners,

I'm looking to join your ranks after I sell my 2011 Nissan Dualis Ti (See; Soccer Mum's car)

I prefer the 90-98 Mr2 body, so I'll be purchasing one of these.

What year, stock or pre modded, NA or Turbo, Targa or Tin etc. would you suggest for a maximum fun/reliable daily drive?
(I have a full licence without any restrictions)

Thank you in advance for your pearls of wisdom!

What are you looking to do with the car?

Reliable daily? Track car? Something inbetween? Weekender?

These things should alter your decision on which car to get.

And at the track are you a "I just liek to take my car to the track to enjoy it" or a "i need to get around wakefield in under 1.05 seconds!!!" type person?

IF the former, an NA would do fine. its fun and its reliable. If you're the latter, then go with a turbo, as you'll just find the power gets you quicker times (tho not necessarily).

Honestly, I like the Idea of a Turbo + my mates have VW Gti's and I'd like them to eat my dust...

What year should I look out for, for a Turbo or NA(Bathurst)?

IF you want that power then you have to go for a turbo. If you're not going to go crazy with mods, a stock gen3 turbo is the best purchase.

IF you're going to go crazy with mods, then any turbo which has been looked after can be considered really. Tho probably best to get one post 92 where they updated the brakes etc.

Oh and mine has the updated brakes aswell
    :)

    Dylan Is right
    I'm happy with my Na
But may or may not go to a turbo conversion later on
I may build a mild Na

    But go the turbo
A stock/mild built turbo can be very reliable

If I was in your boat and had to choose...

I would go for a 92+ with bigger brakes
Tin Top if you can find one
Turbo or NA come down to personal preference, drive both and come to your own conclusion - I think if both have been maintained and not abused they would be equally as reliable. But I would go V6 and Possibly Turbo that down the track

VW Golf Gti's have some nice poke about them!!

A good stockish turbo should be just as reliable as a good n/a, they are toyotas you know...

Wise man 2gregtop told me when I was sorting my turbo out - for reliability keep it simple, bigger intercooler and fan, good quality dump pipe. So far so good (touch wood) as I have been using my turbo as a daily for a while now.

The turbo was good fun at the 2013 Wakefield track day too.

The problem is deciding which one has to go, the 90 Hardtop turbo, or 94 n/a GT...

    Mmm...

I'm leaning towards a turbo for sure.

    I'm perplexed about the Bathurst...
It was apparently the base model, but nowadays they're approx. $4000+ more expensive than most others...
What's so special about them now?

(Besides the "Bragging" rights to say - "I own a car made for Bathurst")

    Simple really.
By far the most common SW20 you will find is the '90 model that had the Gen2 motor.
Bathurst models were later models ('94 on)  so probably don't have as many k's.
But the main reason could be that they had the improved Gen 3 improved motor.
They were also lighter and go harder.
It may help if you do a bit of Googling to find out more.
