MR2 Run Sunday 21 April 2013 - President's Report and Some Pictures

Ah Queensland - beautiful one day, perfect the next.

The weather for our April Run yesterday was spectacular, and of the ten Runners who made the journey, those who could made the most of the sunshine with roofs open, convertible tops down, and huge smiles.

We started the Run with some great twisties up the range to Hampton, only spoilt part of the way by one of the dreaded foes of the enthusiastic MR2 driver, a hat-wearing, crawl through corners, speed up on overtaking lanes, Hyundai i30 driver. Much positive energy, some strange hand signals, and a few well-aimed James Bond-type car rockets (we wish) caused this person to turn right half way up the hills, so some belated fun was then had by all.

Following morning tea at Hampton we ran on through Goombungee to Oakey, where a visit to the Museum of Army Flying had been arranged. This Museum is not well known which is a shame, because it has a fantastic collection of restored and original aircraft going back past World War One. Sadly our request to be loaned the helicopter mini-gun and rocket launcher setups for installing on the cars to deal with wayward i30 drivers was not granted,  but despite this setback all were certainly impressed with the professionalism and quality of the exhibits.

After the Museum and lunch we returned to Brisbane via the outskirts of Toowoomba, including some more interesting twisties as we descended the range on an alternative to the main highway. This time the morning's wayward i30 was replaced by a Corolla for part of the return journey. We're not sure if the same afflictions occur in other states, but there must be a training school somewhere that teaches these drivers that crawling through corners and then speeding up to prevent overtaking is the right thing to do.

The Run totalled nearly 290 km, so we didn't mess about with a short morning journey to a coffee shop. How could you waste such great days when you own such great cars?

Don't forget the May Run, which is a night activity; more importantly, mark down September for the Slidewize day, but most importantly make sure your preparations to attend the Nationals in Tassie are well underway. Enjoy the pictures.

Nice to catch up with everyone and enjoy a quiet drive in the country
    6000rpm on the sound system while negotiating 4R 30 3L 50 2R 30 4L  etc.
The Museum was great, amazing how light the metal is in aircraft
Imagine flying a boxkite ( before the days of Work Health and Safety, You can't go up in that, you could hurt yourself.)
Thanks to Walter and Kathy for all your work

First thx to Walter and Kathy for putting together another awesome day of mixed roads with lunch stop of somthing different an interesting again with a good bunch of people to share it with.
Can't wait for the night run hopefully will have a theme sorted so can get prepaired not like failed st pats day forgetting to respray my car green haha
Once again the route notes were well layed out lucky were able to keep close so didn't need to use them to find way along. Poss 1 suggestion is to also add a map showing outline of route to gain better understanding of we're we heading for the novice 1's that don't know much out of the city limits 😊
Trying to work out balance how to fund trip to tasie as well modifying my car ⛽🚢🚗😄

So I have picked out a couple of photos to add to the collection. Trying the new way to attach images on this forum so we will see how they go.

Thanks for another great run guys! Sadly I will be working on the night run in May but looking forward to the next one if I can make it!

    Cheers,
    Graham
