MR2 Rev1 Power Fc help.

Hi guys,
I have a Rev1 and am looking at ECU options.
As it's a Rev1 I believe I can't use a PowerFC A.P engineering version as that was rev2 or so I read. I'm keen to get rid of that AFM and go a MAP sensor but just hard to find information on what to do with wiring or which ECU to get for a REV1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

You can buy adapter harnesses to go from rev 1 to rev 2. Or if your competent you can repin your harness to suit.

Look on the mr2oc website. Theres a sticky in the sw20 section with the pin out diags etc.

I did the conversion years ago to make an AP Power FC work on a rev1 (early gen2 engine vs late gen2 for rev2) wasn't that difficult and there are also guides now on how to do it.
For the effort required to repin the ecu connections and locate an AP Power fc (pay a premium for it as well) you could probably almost have a Haltech fitted?

When I made the Ap power fc work with my rev 1 I used a straight through harnesss like this one. http://www.berktechnology.com/product/toyota-mr2-turbo/engine-electronics/straight-to-straight-3sgte-ecu-patch-cable
I made the wiring changes on the above harness instead of the original engine harness. Then I added the additional inlet air temp sensor and intake manifold temp sensor and wiring.

I'm not sure who makes the adapter harness Just_ace is referring to though.

    WHAT year is your car
i have a 90 model turbo (afaik, rev 1), i just got the berk technology jumper harness
when i ordered i made sure i told them that it was a 1990 jdm turbo and gave them the ecu part number i had in my car
worked great i did that cause it easier to find a pfc rather than an AP engineering pfc.

Instead of a haltech, has anyone tried the link ecu replacement boards for mr2s?? they can do rev 1,2&3. not sure on price, but i'm willing to bet it would be cheaper than adapting an ap engineering power fc, and no wiring headaches, and cheaper than haltech.

Sorry to res this, but i'm about to do all this **** and need to get it in order.

I have a 1991 MR2 GT (JDM 3sgte ofcourse) the funny thing mine was one of the last built in October of 91 so it's still a REV1 not quite a REV2 :(

    Soooo....BERK can adapt my rev1 harness to a 93+ PFC for Sw20?

You would choose the bottom one.

If you are using a Gen3 power fc you will need to change the map sensor to a gen 3 item or fit an aftermarket sensor and calibrate it in the pfc. The gen 2 sensor is not a selectable option in the pfc map sensor menu. (It is in an AP pfc though)

You will also need to do something about a manifold air temp sensor and also an inlet air temp sensor.

if you want it to run first time
i would get the harness from berk
buy the toyota gen 3 map sensor (or get an apexi one and calibrate it )
    buy gen 3 igniter
buy the toyota IAT and MAT sensors
buy gen 2 bored out fuel rail, gen 3 injectors
put it all together and drive to the tuner, who should get it tuned and running without much fuss at all..(car will start and run pretty well, all the tuner will need to do is tweak it as it will already have a factory map to run on)
this way its also plug and play for a gen 3 toyota stock ecu if for whatever reason you need to use it (cops, rta, epa etc)

you can still run them on gen 2 injectors.
for that you need to change some dwell setting on the gen 2 igniter (using datalogit), so the engine can rev past 6k rpm or somethign like that i cant remember now. (however mine hasnt got this done and still runs fine without changing this setting)
(for this setup, the tuner will have to adjust more setting to compensate for you running gen 2 injectors etc etc, so more time on the dyno)
you will then not need gen 3 injectors, bore out rail and gen 3 igniter.. (but still need a bit more time on the dyno, so $$ wise it will be similar)

first option is more versatile and easier to do..
