Rev Limiter
My MR2 is a SW20 3SGTE GTS. It has a standard ECU and a APEXI AVC-R fitted that works well in conjunction. The only problem I have is when the car hits the rev limiter it cuts power really aggressively. Is there a way of adjusting this to a less aggressive limiter or do I need to get an aftermarket ECU?

Is it hitting review limiter or boost/fuel cut?
If your hitting rev limiter on a std ecu, i highly suggest backing off and changing gear sooner. Your going to destroy your engine quickly otherwise.

If you're hitting the rev limiter you'd be well off peak power... The rev limiter on my car (standard Gen3 3SGTE with a PowerFC) is set only at 7k because you feel it roll off power well before then.

Your rev limiter should cope with occasional limits what I need to know is instead of cutting fuel to all 4 cylinders is there a way of dropping to just 1?

you can possibly buy an aftermarket thing to have a softer revlimit set before the factory rev limit. or try and hunt down a blitz (or similar) chipped ecu which has the factory map altered with rev limits raised or removed. afaik, noone in aus tweaks toyota ecu's. i think over in the states they do rom tunes. but at the end of the day, your past your peak power and only hurting your engine if your taking it to or close to rev limit.

what symptoms are you gettign when maxing out the rev limiter, and how are you hitting the limiter before fuel cut ??? limiter bashing and fuel cut are 2 different things (you may or may not be experience one or the other) ive never needed to get to the revlimiter with the turbo, plenty of power and torque in the mid/upper range that you dont need to rev past 6k i didnt know thats the pfc can have a user set RPM limit, might have to investigate that.

I don’t want to increase my rev limit I just want it to be less aggressive. I do allot of Motorkhana in it and there is a big difference between 2nd and 3rd. Mostly you need to stay in 2nd. when your only a short distance from the corner and 3rd is not an option then a complete cut of power is frustrating. Don’t forget though I am running an APEXI AVC-R boost control set around 17psi. now I think the Apexi can learn itself to each gear. I’m not sure if this helps.

Ah, well at least power wont be dropping off a cliff like a gen2.
Yeh, i guess try an aftermarket rev limiter, or better yet, hunt for a pfc. Get the extra oomph and you might get to the corner that bit quicker before you hit the rev limit.

dj What is a PFC?
Apexi Power FC, a standalone aftermarket ECU. There are versions which are a direct plug-in for some SW20s.

no, the avcr just controls boost. a powerfc controls fuel and timing etc and replaces the stock ecu.
