Fuel pump intermitenttly stops recieving power
Hi guys,
I recently had an issue where my car wouldn't start, the engine kept cranking. I figured there was no fuel being delivered, without a second though I decided to drop the fuel tank and put in a new higher flow fuel pump. (2 days later, dropping the fuel tank is a real pain, they should have made and place in the middle of the car where the fuel pump could be accessed). The car started up afterwards but stopped and the same problem came up again.
I have checked for error codes by jumping the 'T' and 'E1' pins in the diagnostics port, the check engine light flashed ever 0.5 seconds which indicates no errors.
Checked to see if the fuel pump runs by jumping +B and Fp pins in the diagnostics port, no luck. Since I have just replaced the pump I don't think it is broken. Then the next day I tried jumping the pins again and the fuel pump came on, its really starange that it only happens sometimes.
After reading up a bit more I found that the fuel pump relay actually acts as a switch and the circuit open relay is what provided the power for the fuel pump. So it could be to do with these and have though of replacing them, but then I think that it could also be the wiring.
To summarise, my fuel pump stops receiving power intermitently thuse amking the car not start, the engine just keeps cranking. I've narrowed it down to an electrical problem, the fuses have been check and seem to be fine.
If you guys wanna know more please ask and i'll do my best to answer, i've only had my Mr2 for 4 months and am still learning the ins and outs. She is a 1992 Gen 2 JDM MR2 GT with 3SGTE. I'll be taking the car in to an auto electrician for the day tomorrow so maybe they will be able to figure something out.
I found more threads dealing with things like engine not starting, fuel not being delievered, no power to fuel pump but the all never really had a comclusion where the problem was fixed and most of them date back to 2012 and before. I'm hoping that people have had a lot more experiance with this paticular problem and will be able to provide sort of like a guide of steps to go through for this issue......that what I'd hope for at the end anyway.
Thanks
Ravi
