Front end suspension assembly diagram
Putting a call out to those that work at Toyota :-)
Any chance of getting a diagram posted of the front end suspension assembly for 1994 MR2??
Just had both tie rods, rack ends and boots replaced, and want to know what else I should be replacing here after 19 years of service.
Anyone's opinion on what I should replace next on the front suspension is very welcome - keeping it stock, so no suggestions of upgrades or mods thanks.

why are you only doing the fronts may i ask?
also another thing to do is the wheel bearings if they are needed to be done.

This site is pretty awesome for diagrams/part numbers: http://www.toyodiy.com/ Hmm from memory I had the following done to freshen up suspension: Ball joint set - 4 Tie Rods - 4 Steering rack - 2 Strut boots - 4 Bushings - full kit When doing the strut/springs remember to change/replace the strut top mounts. The fronts will be shagged if never replaced. Rears sometimes ok. If ur keeping it stock then Gabriel and KYB shocks are some choices. Some models came with Bilstein if you consider that stock but they are pretty good performance.

A set of lower springs and decent shocks is always good to freshen things up. Also the strut tops have bearings which can seize up.
There isn't really any other consumables up front besides what's been mentioned.

Ah looks like cruiser beat me to it lol. Stock is comfy and fine for street but yeh I agree with blacky you should consider something with a bit more performance if tracking or very "spirited" runs hehe

Starting at front as all the "knocking" noises are coming from there........only noise I have coming from rear sounds like some whinging noise from diff???? Will move to Rear suspension in time (and as finances permit) - tackling the obvious noises first! I will put ball joints and bushes on my next order. Any suggestions on the rear noise??

I appreciate the suggestions to mod for performance enhancements. However, I have owned late model Subaru Imprezza (2006) and BMW 323i (2010) and I still prefer my stock 1994 MR2 over both of them.........maybe I am just sentimental, but how do you improve on stock perfection?? Anyhoo, if I start lowering etc, I then have to worry about tyres rubbing, rolling guards, etc......sorry guys, happy to stay stock. M

Koni yellows would be perfection. Actually Eibach pro kits + Koni should ride more comfy in theory since pro kits are progressive and stocks are linear. Pro kits also have similar height drop to 94 springs. But anyways I'm just rambling, not here to brainwash you or anything :) stock is...stock :)

If you have a '94 model with stock springs/struts, then what you already have would be hard to beat for day to day driving, so long as the shocks are in good condition.
Apart from what has already been mentioned also check the front wheel bearings.
Whining from the rear?
Just a thought. I have no idea what may be causing it on your car, but I have been surprised at the sound some tyres can make. Some are quiet but some are not.
With the ones I have on the rear currently it sounds like exactly a rear wheel bearing is shot and grinding away. I know it's the tyres causing it because I tried a different set of rear wheels/tyres and the sound disappeared completely.

I expect the shockies may be shot too, but working my way up to them......order of priority is;
1. Ball joints and bushes;
2. Shock absorbers; and
3. Wheel bearings.
Let me know if I have the order wrong.......working on front first, then rear.

I'd like to think that if this combo was available when Toyoda San had this car made thats how it would have rolled out. I'm really pleased with my koni/eibach combo. Dunno if its the best idea to replace front setup without doing the rear at the same time. A nice firm front may expose a wobbly rear! But jokes aside, if the front is all nice and crisp, it may really show up any failings due to age and wear in the back of the car.

Agreed! I will fix rear as soon as possible after the front.....would love to do it all at once, but have spent some significant dollars on the car in the last two months, so having to space things out :-)
