wind a nut just past where you need to cut the thread, and secure the section that is going to discarded in a vice or clamp it to a bench (if you secure the bit that's not been used it doesn't matter if you damage the threads. then cut it with a hack saw or and angle grinder with a cutting disc. then clean up the threads a little bit with a file, and wind the nut that you wound on before of the end, as this will move any dags of the thread so you can clean any bits you missed.
