Club Permit Registration - VIC

The MR2 Owners' Club of Australia (VIC Branch) Inc. has just had its first MR2 Club member transfer their MR2 - a July built 1987 AW11, from Full Registration to Club Permit Scheme (CPS) Registration.

CPS registration costs around $125 for a 90 days per year use and around $65 for a 45 days use compared with more than $600 for full registration.

If you own a 25 year old car and belong to an approved Club (which the VIC Branch is)  you can take advantage of this registration option, perfect for your MR2 that is only driven on weekends.  Only addition hassles is that you have to swap to a red number plate, and fill in a Log Book entry for each day you drive your MR2 more than 100M from your address (this little concession allows you to park on the street legally or move your MR2 to get another car out).

Further details can be found at http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/OtherPermits/ClubPermits.htm  or aks your questions here!!!

The MR2 Owners Club of Australia (VIC Branch) Inc. now has 4 members (as at 7th March 2013) who have taken advantage of the Club Permit Scheme, me being the 4th.  The 90 day permit, more than enough for my use, cost me $132.80 compared with $647.00 last July for Full Registration.

Apart from 90 days use per year, remaining a financial member of the MR2 Club (not an issue for me as I would be anyway) and attending two Club events per year in my CPS registered MR2 (also would be doing this anyway) the only downside I can see s filling out the log book every day I drive on the road.  I will be leaving it on the front seat with a pocket calendar so I don't forget.

I would love to register my AW11 on a club registration permit. However the SA Government in their infinite wisdom  changed their policy to "only  vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1979." So this idiotic rule excludes any MR2's. By the way, it was only recently changed to this date.

Without moving to Victoria or NSW any way I can register a car in Vic on a club permit and drive it around in SA?
Are you allowed to drive your cars interstate on club permits?

    Any response is appreciated.

You have to be a member of the VIC Club and attend two events annually. You would need a Victorian address and yes you can drive it interstate, but not sure about ALL the time.

    Thanks REDMR2RED
May be if the Small Car Club of SA can get a politician on side they may change the laws.
    Cheers
