3sge oil pump ?

Hi everyone long time no see!!  I'm back after 5 years of absent here or so lol
Ok atm its kinda urgent that needs to be fixed before pink slip inspection thats due in 4 wks time.
Probably 7 or 8 years ago at 150,000 ks  my 1992 3sge had to be rebuilt due to camshaft starving oil and my mech and I couldnt work out whats wrong with it and ended up rebuilding the whole engine and $1600 out of pocket later, its fine.
So the car is now 192,000ks  the same  problem is back again (jeez)
I'm guessing its the oil pump thats stuffed. After reading this that its common problem eh ? http://toyota-mr2.mine.nu/MR2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22867
What else do you think may cause the top half of the engine starving of no or little oil.

1600 for a full rebuild is very cheap. must be no labour costs in that at all.

the oil pump should not be  problem after only 40000k's unless it was non genuine, or the engine was not cleaned properly and or debri entered into the pump scoring it etc

possible cuases for oil starvation is not having enough oil in the first place, or due to hard cornering.

there is no "inherent" oil supply issue.

hmm ok  my mech is actually my cousin hence cheap :)
everything is original and some gaskets were from celica 3sge for cheaper price back then.
the oil filter is oem toyota brand and noticed that theres not much oil in it even its full thou. which got me thinking its the oil pump problem ...  I'm gonna try and have a lookie this weekend and see what i can find
ps i always service my car every 5000ks

The oil filter or oil pump is genuine?

And was it replaced as part of the rebuild?

both filter and pump are toyota parts. the filter is replace at every 5000ks. but the oil pump was put back during rebuild.
After reading other ppl's similer problems as mine and ppl's comments say the oil pump should be replaced.

Bugger....I hate oiling issues. Past the oil pump, not many other troublesome areas that I can think of.

Nothing wrong with re-using an oil pump after a rebuild as long as everything's cleaned up/inspected. I've done this in the past.

yes my mechanic must have put it back  so i guess it was ok......
but now im thinking it should have replaced anyway.

I'm toying the idea either replace the pump or ditch the whole thing and get new engine from road and track depends on $$$
or at a last resort is to sell it......i dont wanna sell it.........yet. I;ve owned it for 12 years and loved every minute of driving it.......

How did your mech diagnose this?
Low pressure at the top of the head where the original sensor is?

If that is the case the oil pressure would be the same at the bearings since the pressure would be constant throughout the system post filter.
If the bearings are still ok maybe best to replace the pump, a lot cheaper than another new motor

well I've decided to get '95 gen 3 NA instead for $2000 plus labour for installation from Road and Track.
