October Run - Motors In Motion - Kingaroy Aerodrome Saturday 27 October 2012
In late August we had asked for expressions of interest by the 30th of September in the Club doing an overnight Run at the end of October. This was in lieu of the proposed joint Qld/NSW Coffs Harbour weekend that unfortunately NSW was not able to get sufficient numbers for.
Although a number of people expressed interest in going away in October we had to get a minimum of five cars to make it worthwile and this didn't happen.
Given that Knightrous has also been trying to raise interest in competition as part of the Club's activities, the "Motors In Motion" event at Kingaroy Airfiled on Saturday the 27th of October provided a good opportunity to do both - an overight Run plus participation in a well-organised Motorkarnha.
SO........................................................ A number of people (Falcon, Spyder, Knightrous) are making the required arrangements for their private entry in the Motorkarnha (see the website below if you are also interested but note the CAMS requirements AND the cut-off date for registration) and others of us are just going to participate in the display section and check out all the other exhibits.
The "display" group intend travelling up to Kingaroy on Friday afternoon the 26th of Otober and staying overnight in a local motel.
The reason for doing this is that the organisers have asked us to be there shortly after 6.00am on the Saturday to help with the setup as the show opens to the public at 9.00am. The expected finish time is around 4.00pm and we will be driving back to home straight after the event concludes. It might seem fun to get up at 3.30am on Saturday and drive the 3 hours to Kingaroy, but with everything that will be going on Saturday the Friday overnight plan appealed more.
This event is not just about cars but is a celebration of
everything powered by a motor of some sort, from old farm machinery through to modern aircraft and all in between. The Motorkarnha is being held on the airfield bitumen and is about manouverability and control, not speed. Competition starts at about 10.30am and will probably go for the remainder of the day. Costs for entries are extremely reasonable.
If you are interested in driving up to Kingaroy Friday afternoon please contact me via PM or call my number ASAP (
and by the latest Friday this week) as we are making bookings at a motel and will go in convoy.
Hope to see you there!
Walter
