'94 NA Shift Cables

Hi Guy's,

Just found out that the set that I had don't fit (about an inch short) so I'm after a set of shift cables (1260mm) in a bit of a rush as the car is stuck at the garage and I'm really getting sick of the crappy hire car!!

And if anyone knows what shift cables I actually do have and need them, let me know!!

Thanks guys.

The early model NA cables were a bit shorter than the later ones because of an updated shift lever.

The correct part number for the '94 model is shown in the pic, depending on which cable you need.
The one selected in the pic is for forward and back movement of the gearstick.

BTW I believe that the turbo cables are even longer.
All NA cables have a green or white band on them, the turbo ones have a blue and red band.

BTW, new cables are about $200 US from Lithia Toyota that was the cheapest place I found.

Maybe a good idea to measure first, to check what length is needed, as I have been told that turbo cables are longer than NA ones.
But I have seen posts about people being able to interchange turbo and NA ones successfully.

Thanks for that guys. I've asked the mechanic to measure them for me so hopefully he'll get back to me tomorrow morning otherwise I'll go in and do it myself!! Once I've got them I'll put them up.

    Thanks again.

dutchy, have you seen the other post today on the same subject? (engines exhausts etc)
In that, note that the cable I measured is a different part number again (33821- 17061) to the one for your '94 model.

Do you need both cables or only one?
According to Toyodiy, apparently there are 3 different cable part numbers for the forward and back movement of the gearstick for the NA's alone, quite apart from the turbo models.
I think the the different lengths are to allow the gearstick to sit vertical in neutral to accommodate different shift levers or different gearboxes in the case of the turbos.

This stuff all gets a bit confusing lol, but hopefully you'll sort it all out.

LOL, thanks for that Reddtarga - clear as mud!! I'm going to the shop tomorrow anyway as I've found some shift cable bushes so maybe they won't need changing at all, fingers crossed, otherwise I'll take all the details I can to sort it. At least I kind know what and where I'm looking now.

    Thanks again!
