Handbrake cable

Hey guys

I need some urgent help, The handbrake on my drivers side of my car is broken and I need a new one ASAP

The car has been on my friends property for nearly two weeks and I dont want to keep it there much longer as i feel its too much to ask, but this is one of the last things I need before it can go

I'm in the Capalaba area so if you're nearby and have one, that would be so awesome

Thanks
-Eric

Edit: forgot to say what car, its a 1990 sw20 - jap import

ummm why do you need a handbrake to move it? ive snapped mine a few times and driven it ... just check theres nothing hanging down, if someones bodgied the repair it could be a loose cable... other than that if it can't hang down or get tangled then just drive it home....

also... mr2 handbrakes are way too crap to act as effective emergency brakes so forget that aspect.

They just want to do everything so that it's done., plus i think they would feel a bit unsure if they let me drive it home without a working handbrake for one side.

I don't have a new one but I still have my old one from when I replaced it recently.  I had oiled it up to make sure it worked.  It would get you by.  I am at Birkdale.

Sorry, I just read the edit.  Mine is an AW11 so it won't suit your SW20.

If one of the cables snaps the entire system will not work. Ie does not just affect the one wheel.

Parking in first/reverse should get you by, the engine compression will hold the car, unless the hill is steep, and the car can creep.

    Cheers

Wow that's weird. Is it jammed or snapped. I am sure when one of my rears snapped nothing worked.

    Cheers

BTW, although there are different part numbers for rear cable kits for each side, and the guide brackets are different for the left and right, I believe the actual cables are the same.

I agree you can use a cable for the other side in an emergency.  In order to get Eric going, does anyone know whether you can fit an AW11 cable to a SW20 in an emergency?

probably... a brake place once did mine up with shackles and crimping and it worked a treat till the next time i snapped a cable.... i can't remember EXACTLY how they fitted it though i just distinctly remember seeing they'd just made something up....

if one sides working it sounds like something might be jammed as well cause the main cable pulls onto a balance bar which connects to the two rear cables... if ones broken the other sde SHOULDn't do jack...

Okay the AW11 Cable seems to Fit, but that's all my mate told me.

If this works it might make everyone's life easier since the cables can be swapped between the two models

    Thanks
