1990 3GSE High Idle

Hey all,
my sdub is idling rather high then it should.. while cold its up around 1500 - 1600rpm and after about 40 minutes of driving it only drops down to about 1200rpm..
The idle screw is all the way out.
anyone got any ideas what would cause the high idle.. its not erratic, it holds a steady idle at those speeds.

cheers,
Dyl

Has the high idle just started to happen?

Does the coolant temp gauge move to the middle when hot?
A stuck thermostat may cause a high idle because the coolant stays cold.
Also check the condition of all the hoses around the throttle body.
Extra air entering the intake manifold post throttle would cause a high idle.

it had been at a high idle for a while, like a month or so, it used to take a good half hour to an hour or so just to get the temp needle to a quarter of the gauge.. i haven't had time to sus out the problem. but yesterday im going to assume the thermostat failed cause the car started to overheat. gauge flew up to half way and i watched it careful as i kept driving and it started creeping above so i pulled over pretty much straight away.
Going to try to find a replacement thermostat today but being a sunday probably unlikely. worst case ill just rip it out so i can get to work monday and look for a new one monday as well

From what you have said the thermostat looks like its stuck.

With my '90 model NA  it only takes 3 - 4 minutes from cold for the temp gauge to get to 1/2 way and then stay there.

If you pm me with your email, I can send you an article on how to change the  thermo without having to re-bleed the system.
It's in PDF and too large to pm.
