Aw11 went KLUNK!!!!!!

Hey guys, went to reverse out my driveway this morning and as I released the clutch the car crept back for less than a meter, then KLUNK....... Felt as if I ran something over, but nothing there. I've dodged up an accelerator cable because it had frayed but when I checked it, it looked ok! Was still dark so I'll look after work but does anyone have any ideas???? Plz help

Maybe fore/aft engine mount? Hard to diagnose with so little info.

Unfortunately that's all the info I have until I get home, but I will check the mounts and cv's!

My old battered Impreza did that with a knackered CV, scared the hell out me! You'll already know to do this, but in a 1000 to 1 shot you don't, try driving full lock in either direction and listen for loud clicks and you'll know it's CV.

^ The AW11 doesn't drive the front wheels like your impreza so the turning thing won't work.

    just be careful driving it.

my cv seized.. there was a clunk then a grinding sound as i rolled to a stop.

the CV seized, as the axle rotated round it pulled out of the tranny and rotated into the tranny, breaking the tranny case and sending metal into the gears......

i'd push it and listen before driving it, and if possible get someone to keep an eye on the axles while you do it... mine was a freak thing that i havent heard of before or since, but it proves it can happen.

A quick way to check - jack up one rear wheel at a time, and rotate the wheel.  With the suspension basically on full droop you'll be making the cv joint work at it's maximum.  Also, after PLACING A JACK STAND UNDER THE VEHICLE, lie down and eyeball the cv boot as you turn the wheel.
You might like to check the torque mounts ( the North and South engine mounts)  If you can rock the engine backwards and forwards by hand, that's not good.
After these simple checks, if you can't see anything wrong, I'd start to think "gearbox internals".
Best of luck, and I hope it's something simple.
