AW11 Starting Problems
Hi Everyone
Had major starting problems over the last 6 months.
Every time we tried to start the car it appeared as if the battery was not fully charged as the cranking of the car got slower and slower.
The symptoms were that of a faulty battery or a bad earth. Sometimes the car would start on the first crank with no problems.
If we left the car sitting for a week or so it would crank over very slowly and it would sometimes start but most times we had to jump start it.
I spoke to an auto electrician who knew all about Denso Starters and in his opinion the problem was in wiring or earthing problems.
He told me that when a denso packs up it just cliks and does nothing.
I did all the battery tests as suggested on the internet and they all pointed to a faulty battery.
I got fed up yesterday and took the battery back to the place of purchase. I asked them to do a test on the battery to see if it was faulty.
The tests proved the battery was not at fault but they did offer a replacement which I declined.
So today my son Kyal( IsometricBacon) and I decided to replace the starter motor on his AW11.
We had some frustrations in working out how to get the starter past the extractors. After removing some bits we were able to take it out.
At this stage we were not sure if it was the starter that was causing the problems.
However we put in another starter that I had lying around and presto! problem solved.
So Kyal is happy now his car is running again and the exercise cost us nothing but time.
Cheers
