What HG? and how much boost should I run max?
I need my car running, and my stroker motor I've been slowly building is taking to long. So I have an engine I can build quickly and get my car running again but I just need some advice. I have a bottom end with forged pistons, id want to get new rings for them, they are ross pistons, where would be the best place to get rings? I have a standard head with high flowed ct26, and a sard ecu and walbro pump, and trust intercooler. Is a normal non-metal head gasket ok to use? What is the max boost I should run? If you think I need a metal HG are the cheap ones on ebay ok? or worse than the normal HG's I'm guessing. Such as http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CELICA-ST185-ST205-MR2-3SGTE-TURBO-STEEL-HEAD-GASKET-/120543876083?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c10f993f3#ht_718wt_1163 Thanks for your input

A fresh new.genuine "normal" gen2 hg will be fine.
Cometic mls hgs are only $100odf anyway tho.
Provided the head/block mating surfaces are flat and head is torqued down correctly you should have no issues with 16psi.

For rings, get a set of hastings rings. Approx $130 on ebay.

... i run a gen 3 in my gen 2 3s-gte. the gen 3 toyota gasket is metal and its the same as the TRD gen 2 one.... as for boost, it's up to you, but i wouldn't bother with more than 15psi.... 17 if you really want the numbers... but 15 seems to be a nice balance for the ct26.... should see around 150rwkw.

Found hastings rings for $110 on ebay, any one know links for cometic mls around the same price in australia? I can only find usa sellers. $250 to get my car running sounds good, for myself the standard gasket would be fine, but I'll be looking to sell this engine when my other one is ready and I'm thinking a MLS would be a more reliable selling point. Thanks again

Cometics are bit more exxy in Aus due to taxes etc. Try get one off Dylan. I'd install an MLS gasket, that way your motor could be worth something significant when you swap over to the stroker. On a CT26, not efficient enough over 15psi to warrant going over.

Skimming doesn't equal reading Just noticed it's a Sard ECU too. In which case you should set it on the dyno. A max of 18psi if it's ok (depending on how the mapping is on the Sard tuned ROM).

Thanks, I'll email Dylan tonight to check prices. All aftermarket pistons use the same ring sizes? I mean there is no problem using the hastings rings on the ross pistons? Just got back from Korea and Japan yesterday, it's good to be back out in the shed.

no, not all after market pistons use the same ring sizes. but ROSS/ACL use the same sizes as std toyota IIRC. check on their website.

Serco in Capalaba Brisbane are the Aus importers of Cometic - Almost Guarantee they will have a HG on the shelf - make sure you get the correct thickness - you may even consider dropping a couple of thou in size to raise your compression, then you shouldn't need to run as much boost to acheive a high HP... must be tuned on a dyno with good knock sensing and only every user 98RON.... I think standard is about 56 thou - you can go as thin as 27 thou with cometic.. 30 thou would raise your compression by about 0.5:1

Probably a dumb question, but I'm ordering the hastings rings of the net, my pistons are 1mm oversize, do you just use the same rings as standard size? Cause they dont give options for bigger rings.

No, you need 1mm OS rings also.
