Custom Headlights SW20

I am building a set of custom headlights for my SW20.
Twin headlight unit
fully resessed
fully sealed
BMW Angel Eyes
Audi R8 Style LED strip
Twin LED Indicators

This is the rough plug stage and I am looking for thoughts and feed back on styling before I get shaping and moulding.
Any thoughts?

Looks like you are going to lose quite a bit of lower projected light downwards. Id try and mount them as high and forward to avoid the big loss.

Yeah... The photos are a bit deceiving and if you view them from horizontal the loss is minimal plus they throw ample light and the outside light will be the low beam so should be fine???
To try to limit this these kind of problems lights are the smallest I could find and believe me I looked everywhere for a long time... The only other alternative is motor cycle lights.

The only way to mount them as high as possible and allow for the flush clear plastic cover was to move them back as far as possible.
The other option is to cut into the front bar??? I have not ruled this out yet... What do you think?

First priority is get them functioning well and looking good.

HID could be an option down the track and from memory you can buy kits from eBay?
Do you think HIDs would make a big difference?

HIDs make a HUGE difference if they're mounted in proper projector housings. About 2-3 times brighter than halogen and a more visible colour temp (ie. not yellow).
Yeah you can get kits on eBay cheap enough (eg. H7 to HID), I easily converted my gfs 2004 Celica to HID for $100. Looks factory since that comes with projectors already.

good work and somethign different for a change from the rouge motorsport lights everyone wants.
    Hids work well with projectors
i would def go HID in your case.
if your pointing the DRL lights upwards its not going to be visible fron the front is it?
try to make it a reversible design so if you get reamed you can change back.
HID lights need to be self leveling to be legal. in sayign that every tom dick and harry i know just wacks them on and leaves it at that.
if you go for 5-6k colours it looks like OEM.

    cheers

DRL - DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS
its the LED lights what you see on most new cars now.
im assuming thats what your trying to replicate with the white LEDs in the front.

    "To be legal?"
I don't know about other states but  they won't be legal in Vic anyway.
Try Googling this: "retrofit hid's legal in Victoria? "

Also not legal ad the lamps & LEDs are not DOT Approved or E Marked.
ADR Approved (Hella or Narva) light units are about $350 a piece from memmory = $1,400 for the set... OUCH!

Has anyone seen any cheaper alternatives?

One thing in my favor is:
I am currently running custom made headlights (E 13 Marked) that are VASS engineer approved so if I'm pulled up hopefully the engineering cert will prevent any unwanted fines.
Worst case I can just put the certified lights back in.

Looks very interesting and would look great if done right, modernise the car.  Have you thought about runnign the DRL strip all the way across the bottom part to the bonnet?

    Cheers
